Feel free also to join the discussion thread below to share your views.

Indiana and the Boilermakers tip off at 9:00 p.m. ET on Peacock.

    ———————————————————————–

    FINAL: Indiana 72 – Purdue 67

    Image

    SECOND HALF

A big shot from the unlikeliest of candidates. Conor Enright buries one from outside. 68-63 with 44 seconds left, and Tucker DeVries goes to the line.

Purdue cuts it to 65-61. 1:48 and a timeout by Darian DeVries.

    • Two very big missed opportunities by Reed Bailey and Tucker DeVries at the free-throw line. Both missed the front end of a 1-and-1. Major.

Indiana leads 65-58 into the final media timeout. 3:24 to go.

    • The Hoosiers certainly haven’t had the most productive offense in this half, but have made shots when they needed to. They’re 1 for their last 7 from the field, and have shot 38 percent in total. However, their defense is what has anchored them in the game.
    • Brayden Smith has had an overall quiet night, but has made some pretty important shots throughout the game to at least keep Purdue in the mix. Hard to believe that if they do come back, he wouldn’t be the reason why.

IU leads 65-58 with 4:29 to go.

    • Braden Smith is not making it easy for the Hoosiers. Knocks in a transition three to cut the lead to single digits.

Indiana up 59-52 with 7:55 to go.

    • Not out of the woods yet. Purdue is now on a 7-0 run over the past 1:33 after some defensive miscues. The Boilermakers have made their last three from the field and five of their last seven. IU hasn’t made a field goal in the past 2:44.
    • Nick Dorn has continued to be impressive tonight, and it hasn’t just been his shooting. He’s gotten to the cup a few times, which is a part of his game we haven’t seen often. He has two free throws coming out of the timeout.

Hoosiers lead 51-41 with 11:59 to play.

    • One of the more overlooked aspects of this game has been IU’s ability to stay out of foul trouble. Indiana does not have a player with more than two fouls so far, and it has three team fouls heading into this media timeout.
    • In my opinion, Indiana’s defense has been winning the game for them so far. Purdue is currently on a three-minute scoring drought, and Brayden Smith has just nine points so far.

Indiana leads 47-39 with 15:24 to go.

    • Once again, a pretty even start to the half, although IU had two made 3s to start the half. Nick Dorn had two open looks of his own, but couldn’t hit. The Hoosiers need to hunker down on defense to keep their lead, especially in the paint.
    • No Tayton Conerway tonight for Indiana, who came into the game questionable. I’d be very curious to see what he could bring if he were healthy to a game like this. His ability to get downhill could’ve been an added weapon.

    HALFTIME: Indiana 40 – Purdue 29

    Image

    FIRST HALF

IU 34 – Purdue 25 with 2:32 in the half.

    • Hoosiers are rolling right now on both ends. They boast a 15-2 run over the last 4:14 and are shooting 50 percent from the field so far. Meanwhile, they’ve forced seven Boilermaker turnovers and 45 percent from the field.
    • Of course, as soon as I comment on Wilkerson, he shuts me up. He hit a long three that nearly blew the roof off the building and made a couple of layups to add to the run. He’s also added seven rebounds and two assists so far.

Purdue takes a 23-19 lead with 7:03 to go.

    • Back and forth game we have in SSAH. Purdue has made their last three from the field, despite what I would call some decent defense from Indiana. Lamar Wilkerson hasn’t gotten off to the best of starts. After hitting his first three, he’s now only 1 for 5 from the field.
    • Nick Dorn is the early points leader for Indiana, who has really come on as of late to give IU some offense. He’s made two from beyond the arc and is letting it fly with a lot of confidence.

Indiana leads 14-11 with 11:53 to go.

    • The Hoosiers have a 6-0 run brewing heading into the media timeout. They’ve played well offensively so far with plenty of ball movement and motion in their sets. So far, they are 4 for 8 from the field.
    • Purdue definitely has some size advantage on Indiana, make no mistake. 7-footer Oscar Cluff is matched up with Bailey, and Trey Kaufmann-Renn is getting guarded by a smaller Trent Sisley. IU will have to try and force the ball out of the paint.

Purdue leads 10-8 with 15:51 left in the half.

    • This has everything you want in a rivalry game here in just the first few minutes. Both teams are making shots, tons of physical play on both sides, and a pretty electric home crowd. Early makings of another classic so far.
    • Tucker DeVries is matched up with Trey Kaufman-Renn on defense, but Indiana has sent double-teams to help him, which has given up a few open shots for Purdue. Not sure if there have been some lapses that have led to those open looks on the back end, but we’ll see if the Hoosiers stick with it.

    PREGAME NOTES

    • Indiana’s Tayton Conerway remains QUESTIONABLE, but is taking part in his usual warmups. Jason Drake and Josh Harris are out. Purdue’s injury report is clean.
    • It’s another edition of a “stripe out” in Assembly Hall tonight. Students got some shirts to help their efforts, and it looks like the rest of the IU fans got the memo.
    • Starters for IU: Enright, Wilkerson, Dorn, DeVries, Alexis
