The IU basketball program has confirmed the addition of Notre Dame transfer point guard Markus Burton.
The 6-foot and 190-pound product of Mishawaka, Ind. should have two years of eligibility remaining.
Burton is the 30th former Indiana Mr. Basketball to play for the Hoosiers.

Markus Burton Pledges to Indiana Men’s Basketball
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana head men’s basketball coach Darian DeVries announced the addition of rising senior guard Markus Burton to the basketball program on Monday morning. Burton, the 2023 Indiana Mr. Basketball, joins Indiana after three seasons at Notre Dame.
During his three-year run in South Bend, he earned two All-ACC selections and ACC Rookie of the Year plaudits. He produced 1,315 points, 232 rebounds, 259 assists, and 123 steals in 69 career games (68 starts) at Notre Dame. He averaged 19.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.8 steals in 33.2 minutes per game. Burton shot 43.8% (469-of-1,071) from the floor, 33.2% (101-of-304) from the 3-point line, and 84.7% (276-of-326) from the free throw line. He made 1.8 triples and 4.8 free throws per game. He scored double figures in 63 career games, topped the 20-point barrier 33 times, and scored 30-plus points in four contests. Burton averaged 19.7 points and 3.7 assists per game in his last seven games against ranked opponents (six away from home).
His junior campaign was abruptly finished after a season-ending injury 10 games into the year. He averaged 18.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.6 steals in 30.1 minutes per game. Burton shot 48.9% (65-of-133) from the floor, 30.6% (11-of-36) from the 3-point line, and 91.7% (44-of-48) from the free throw line.
The 6-0 guard started 25 games in 26 appearances during his sophomore season and landed on the All-ACC Second Team. He averaged 21.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.7 steals in 33.7 minutes per game. He shot 44.2% (194-of-439) from the floor, 37.5% (48-of-128) from the 3-point line, and 84.8% (117-of-138) from the free throw line. Burton led the Atlantic Coast Conference in points per conference game (23.5), reached double figures in the scoring column on 24 occasions, collected 17 games with 20-plus points, and scored 30-or-more points in three games. He added 12 multi-steal games and handed out at least five helpers in six games.
Burton began his career with a prolific freshman season that culminated in ACC Rookie of the Year honors. He started all 33 games for the Irish and averaged 17.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.9 steals in 33.7 minutes per game. He shot 42.1% (210-of-499) from the floor, 30.0% (42-of-140) from the 3-point line, and 82.1% (115-of-140) from the free throw line. Burton hit double figures in 30 games with 11 20-point outings and scored a Notre Dame freshman record 577 points. He ranked first in points and steals per game and second in assists per night among Atlantic Coast Conference freshmen.
Burton played four years of varsity basketball for head coach Al Rhodes at Penn High School in Mishawaka. Following his senior campaign in 2023, he was named Indiana Mr. Basketball, AP First Team All-State, and IBCA Senior Supreme 15. He finished No. 20 all-time in scoring in Indiana with Penn High School and St. Joseph County record 2,273 career points to pair with 533 rebounds, 512 assists, and 329 steals. He posted averages of 30.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 3.6 steals during his historic senior season to lead Penn to a 28-2 record and semi-state runner-up finish. He is the son of Michelle Taylor and Markus Burton.
