College basketball and all winter sports appear to be on the same path as football and the other fall sports. The NCAA is targeting an extra year of eligibility for everyone on the winter sport rosters due to the unusual set of circumstances brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Multiple national reports have indicated that the NCAA could formalize the ruling for winter athletes next week. “Winter sport Division I NCAA athletes should find out next week if they can get an extra year of eligibility, regardless of how many games they play this season,” Andy Katz wrote on Twitter.…

And in a Big Ten opener on Oct. 5, 2013, the Hoosiers kicked down a barrier with a convincing 44-24 win over the Nittany Lions. The linebacker position has always been a featured part of Indiana’s defense since Tom Allen arrived in 2016. During his first two years in Bloomington, Allen had two of his best at the position, with Tegray Scales and Chris Covington solidifying the defense. Four freshmen linebackers came in the door in 2018 as Scales and Covington exited. Now those four are third year veterans, and once again IU hopes to have the linebacker position become a centerpiece of the defense. Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack provided an update with fall camp now well underway. Wommack begins his second season in charge of the defense after taking over for head coach Tom Allen. IU finished 36th nationally in 2019 in total defense, including 43rd in rushing defense, 46th in passing defense, and 45th in scoring defense. It was the game Nebraska’s administration wanted. And they got it. Playing against 90,000 hostile fans and Nebraska in their famous “black shirt” uniforms, Indiana put together the signature win of its memorable 2019 season in Lincoln. IU clinched bowl eligibility behind a career best effort from Peyton Ramsey. The Hoosier quarterback threw for 351 yards and rushed for another 42 while accounting for a total of three touchdowns.
