With assistant coach Kenny Johnson back on the IU staff, the Hoosiers continue to place a heavy emphasis on the Washington D.C. metro area. The latest sign of that came Friday when the Hoosiers offered class of 2027 guard J’Lon Lyons. Lyons attends Clinton Grace Christian School in Clinton, Maryland. In the average of the national rankings, Lyons is a 3-star, the No. 100 overall player, and the No. 27 shooting guard in the 2027 class. The 6-foot-3 Lyons has a similar skill set to recent IU commit Prince-Alexander Moody, as both can play on or off the ball. For…

According to the industry average, Owens is the No. 70 safety in the 2026 class. The 6-foot and 180-pound Owens attends Jonesboro H.S. in Douglasville, Ga. The Miami Heat NBA Summer League roster will have some IU flair next month. Former Hoosiers center Kel’el Ware will be playing a second season with the Heat, and he’ll be joined this summer by his successor on the low block in Bloomington. Multiple outlets have reported Oumar Ballo will play for the Heat this summer as he vies for a professional role. Ballo averaged 13 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.3 blocks per game while shooting 62.3 percent from the field for Indiana last season. The 22-year-old 7-footer started his college career at Gonzaga and Arizona before transferring…
Indiana made what appears to be their first class of 2028 offer on Thursday evening. The IU staff offered rising sophomore wing Boogie Cook. In his social media posts announcing the offer, Cook said it was his first Division I offer. Schools like Purdue and Louisville and others are also involved. The Louisville, Ky. product attends Christian Academy of Louisville. The 6-foot-7 Cook played in front of the IU staff at the program’s team camp in Bloomington earlier this month. For travel basketball Cook plays on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit for Indiana Elite 2028. Thus far he is averaging 10.9…
Indiana has a fourth high-major opponent on the 2025-26 schedule. The Hoosiers will host Kansas State on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Rocco Miller appears to be the first to report the news on Thursday. Sources confirm to The Daily Hoosier Miller’s report is accurate. IU will also play Marquette in Chicago, Louisville in Indianapolis, and Kentucky in Lexington as part of their first nonconference slate under head coach Darian DeVries. The Hoosiers are also expected to host Milwaukee and Chicago State as part of the still develop nonconference schedule. Kansas State had a disappointing 2024-25 season…
March 7, 2024 was a day that felt like the point of no return for former IU basketball head coach Mike Woodson. That’s the day coveted 5-star signee Liam McNeeley announced he had asked out of his national letter of intent with Indiana and was reopening his college recruitment. With the benefit of hindsight, it probably wasn’t a coincidence Indiana leaked a day earlier that Woodson would be returning for the 2024-25 campaign. It was probably not a coincidence that IU was getting out in front of the McNeeley news, and probably not a coincidence that McNeeley was reacting to…
Choosing the best of former IU head coach Bill Mallory’s seasons wasn’t easy, but it is clear that the two-year run from 1987 to 1988 was not only his best — but one of the best in school history. The 1988 Hoosiers were coming off of a great season, and the momentum and enthusiasm around the program could not have been higher. IU jumped right out of the gates with a 3-0-1 start, the only blemish being a tie at Missouri. The early wins all came by more than 20 points and included triumphs over Rice, Kentucky and Northwestern.…
Darian DeVries suffered his first high school recruiting decision day loss this afternoon. 4-star wing Sammy Jackson surprised many Wednesday when he picked perennial mid-major power Virginia Commonwealth over Indiana and Texas, along with St. Joe’s. Jackson announced the decision at his high school. His father, long-time NBA player Marc Jackson, also started his college career at VCU before transferring to Temple. A Philadelphia product, Jackson chose to play at VCU for another product of his hometown. New VCU head coach Phil Martelli, Jr. played at St. Joe’s in Philadelphia. Jackson took an official visit to IU earlier this month.…
In the age of revenue sharing, college athletic departments need to find more ways to raise money. More games means more television revenue, and it seems we may be entering the era of more action on the courts and fields throughout the college landscape. One of the first signs of that came Wednesday, when CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander reported the NCAA is expected to approve an expansion of the college basketball season from 31 to 32 games. Norlander says the move is being done to encourage even more high-profile nonconference games. The change would go into effect with the 2026-27…
