Former IU football wideout Omar Cooper, Jr. decided in January to forego his final season of eligibility and enter the NFL Draft. His draft stock has been rising ever since. Thought to be a second to fourth-rounder when he entered the NFL Draft, Cooper, Jr. has been getting first-round projections, including from ESPN’s Field Yates this week, who slotted him in as the No. 23 overall pick (to the Eagles) in his latest mock draft. Indiana didn’t have an answer for Kent State guard Trevor Huffman as he led the Golden Flashes with 24 points in a 2001 NCAA Tournament first round upset over the Hoosiers. When Huffman hit a three-pointer to open the game for Kent State in the 2002 rematch, it looked like the Michigan native might just torture IU once again. IU basketball coach Darian DeVries was misrepresented by the overreactive types last month when he acknowledged a shortcoming of his first Indiana team was a lack of true Big Ten size. Another day, another anniversary of a major Indiana upset in the NCAA tournament.  Yesterday, it was IU taking down Duke in 2002. Today is the anniversary of the Hoosiers taking down an even bigger Goliath. On March 22, 1984 Indiana sent shock waves through college basketball as the young and athletically inferior Hoosiers pulled off a major upset in the Sweet 16, and sent home one of the most talented teams in the history of the game. Cornell transfer guard Jake Fiegen is a name to know in the transfer portal for IU basketball. As a junior at Cornell, the 6-foot-4 and 205-pound Fiegen averaged 17.1 points per game while shooting 54.6% overall including 41.4% from three on 133 attempts.  Fiegen shot at 76.3% at the stripe. He added 5.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest. According to a report by Joe Tipton of Rivals, Fiegen is also hearing from Ohio State, Northwestern, Villanova, Vanderbilt, and DePaul, among others.  The transfer portal does not formally open until April 7. Miami’s players and staff were so worried about Aiden Fisher, they were calling previous IU opponents for tips and clues on how to fool the All-American linebacker. Changes are coming to the college football targeting rules in 2026. But it isn’t clear the NCAA has found a logical conclusion just yet. For at least one season, a targeting penalty will no longer automatically take a college football player off the field for the following game. The Division I Football Bowl Subdivision Oversight Committee on Thursday approved a one-year trial rule that ladders the punishment for each successive targeting penalty by a player. March 20, 1987 — Cincinnati, Ohio Bob Knight and Mike Krzyzewski go back a long way. In 1966 Krzyzewski joined Knight’s Army program as a guard where he played for three years and averaged 6.2 points per game.  Krzyzewski joined Knight on the IU staff for a memorable 1974-75 season before returning to Army to lead that program until 1980.
