After a dynamic senior season at Indiana, Shay Ciezki has an opportunity in the WNBA.
Although she went undrafted Monday evening, Ciezki told The Daily Hoosier she is on her way to Phoenix on Tuesday. There she’ll sign a free agent deal with the Mercury and participate in their training camp.
Ciezki was a standout for the Hoosiers in 2025-26.
The 5-foot-7 guard from Buffalo, N.Y. started 31 games and averaged 22.8 points per contest, which set a new single season record at Indiana.
Ciezki was highly efficient on her way to that new program standard. She shot 52.6 percent from the floor, 44.6 percent from beyond the 3-point arc, and 90.8 percent from the free throw line. She was just the second NCAA Division I women’s basketball player to record 50/40/90 shooting splits while averaging 20+ points.
She scored 708 points, which ranks second in a single season at Indiana. She made 79 3-pointers which ranks third all-time in a single season. Ciezki also averaged 3.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.5 steals in 35.5 minutes per game. She scored 20 or more points 21 times and had seven 30-point games on her way to All-Big Ten First Team and Honorable Mention All-American honors.
Ciezki improved dramatically during her two years at IU after transferring from Penn State ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. Her senior season scoring average was nearly double her career average coming into the season. She’ll look back fondly on her time in Bloomington as she moves on to the next stage of her playing career.
“They (Indiana) took a chance on me in the portal, and we had our big wins last year. We had some big wins this year. But honestly, it’s just the memories, the little stuff,” Ciezki told TDH last week. “The bus rides, the team meetings, the sleepovers, the stuff that a lot of people don’t think of when they see a college basketball team. It’s crazy how time flies four years in and out, and I’m already onto the next thing.”
Ciezki will attempt to earn a roster spot with Phoenix and join fellow former Hoosiers Grace Berger and Mackenzie Holmes in the WNBA.
