Former Hoosier Logan Duncomb completes long journey back to high-major

Former IU basketball player Logan Duncomb will play his final season of college basketball back in the Hoosier State, and back at the high major level.

But it won’t be in Bloomington.

After being named the 2026 Big South Conference Player of the Year, Duncomb transferred from Winthrop to Notre Dame this week.

The 6-foot-10 Duncomb had a breakout season.  He ranked second in the league in scoring (18.3 ppg) and second in rebounding (8.9 rpg). He posted 14 double-doubles and had 14 games with 20 or more points.

The Cincinnati, Ohio, native shot an efficient 60.0% from the field while converting 73.5% from the free-throw line. Duncomb broke the Winthrop single-season record for free throws made (194) and attempted (264). In fact, Duncomb drew 9.5 fouls per 40 minutes, which was the most in Division I last season.

It has been a roller coaster ride for Duncomb to this point.

A 4-star Archie Miller recruit, Duncomb played his first two seasons at IU for Mike Woodson.

As a freshman Duncomb played in nine games and scored six points for the Hoosiers.

He averaged 2.9 points in nine appearances as a sophomore before having surgery to address a major sinus infection.  That would end his season and open the opportunity for a medical hardship waiver to play this upcoming 2026-27 campaign.

He transferred after the 2022-23 season.  Duncomb went to Xavier but left the team before the 2023 season due to health reasons.  He missed the entire 2023-24 campaign.

Duncomb resurfaced at Winthrop for the 2024-25 season.

There was still no sign a sudden emergence was coming.  He scored just 3.0 points a game in 8.0 minutes per contest.  It included a seven minute appearance at IU on Dec. 29, 2024.  Did you notice?  It had been that way for Duncomb.

Then out of nowhere, Duncomb erupted in 2025-26, leading Winthrop to the Big South title game.

And he’ll have a chance to put it all together back where he started — at the high-major level in Indiana — in his final college season.
