Trayce Jackson-Davis is putting his family over his alma mater.
And who can blame him?
When his brother Tayven Jackson returns to Bloomington on Saturday as the starting quarterback for North Texas, TJD will be in the stands supporting him.
And that means trading IU crimson for North Texas green for one afternoon.
“I’m definitely gonna be repping the Mean Green with my brother. It’s always family first,” Jackson-Davis said on The Sam Acho’s Podcast. “I have no hate against Indiana by any means, but it’s definitely gonna be a Mean Green show, and I’ll be there front and center, cheering him on.”
Meanwhile Jackson-Davis’ former IU basketball teammate could be in Bloomington to face the Hoosiers in December.
According to multiple reports, C.J. Gunn has enrolled at Missouri and is attempting to obtain a fifth-year of eligibility to play for the Tigers.
Missouri comes to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall for what is shaping up to be a high-powered nonconference matchup on Dec. 18. The Tigers are ranked No. 20 by national analyst Jon Rothstein after head coach Dennis Gates convinced Mark Mitchell to return to Columbia earlier this week.
Mitchell had a career year last season, putting up 18.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.5 blocks per game, becoming the second player in school history to lead the team in points, rebounds and assists.
If Gunn plays in that December game in Bloomington, he’s likely to be, well, gunning. In two seasons at DePaul, 90 percent of his field goal attempts were from three-point range (5.4 per game).
Gunn is a class of 2022 recruit who spent two seasons at Indiana and two at DePaul. He committed to Archie Miller and then kept that commitment when Mike Woodson was hired. Gunn saw limited action at Indiana but started 54 games in two years for the Blue Demons and averaged 13 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. He shot 50% from the floor and 31.5% from three after leaving IU.
Mitchell is also seeking a fifth year, so it’s still not clear what the Tigers roster will look like when December rolls around.
IU is in the same situation, as veteran big man Sam Alexis is still actively seeking a fifth season.
