The timing for recruiting visits for college games was good on Friday as most high school seasons haven’t started and Indiana’s meeting with Northern Illinois fell on the weekend. Those variables helped IU basketball secure visits from several recruiting targets for the Friday night contest vs. NIU. Indiana defeated Northern Illinois by a final score of 85-49 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind. on Friday evening. The Hoosiers were led by Trayce Jackson-Davis’ 19 points, 7 rebounds and 7 blocks.  Xavier Johnson added 13 points and 3 assists.  Race Thompson had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Just 2:37 into Indiana’s season opener against Eastern Michigan, all the questions were answered. Parker Stewart was making it rain 3-pointers, the defense was pitching a shutout, and a Trayce Jackson-Davis layup gave IU an 8-0 lead and forced a timeout by Eagles coach Stan Heath. Indiana fans were Googling Final Four tickets during the break. Watch as Indiana redshirt senior forward Race Thompson and freshman guard Tamar Bates met with the media on Thursday afternoon to discuss their Friday game against Northern Illinois and many other topics. It won’t save Indiana’s season, but the Hoosiers’ struggling offense could get a lift this weekend when they return home to face Rutgers. Head coach Tom Allen said he expects to have multiple quarterbacks available to play on Saturday when IU takes on the Scarlet Knights at Memorial Stadium (Noon Eastern, BTN). Tight end Khameron Taylor is the latest departure from the IU football team via the transfer portal. Taylor transferred in to the program following the 2019 seasons after three years with South Alabama.  He arrived as an immediately eligible graduate transfer. The 6-foot-4 and 270 pound Taylor never appeared in a game during his two seasons with Indiana.  He dealt with injuries during both campaigns. Indiana brought in Taylor with the view that he would predominately be a blocker, but they also saw the athletic potential to make plays as a pass-catcher.
