IU basketball’s seed is set for the 2026 Big Ten Tournament

Indiana’s final regular season game might impact whether the Hoosiers make the NCAA Tournament, but it will have no impact on their seed in next week’s conference tournament.

IU will be the No. 10 seed in head coach Darian DeVries’ first Big Ten Tournament irrespective of the outcome of Saturday’s game at Ohio State, or any other conference game still to be played.

The Hoosiers (18-12, 9-10) are currently in 10th place, and there is only one team currently above or below them that can tie them in the league standings.  And that’s a 10-8 Iowa team that holds a head-to-head tiebreaker over Indiana.

The 2026 Big Ten Tournament is at the United Center in Chicago.  As the No. 10 seed, IU will play on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. ET.

As the No. 10 seed, IU will play the winner of a Tuesday game between the No. 18 and 15 seeds.  Penn State appears to be locked into the No. 18 seed.  There are still some different scenarios for which team will end up No. 15.  The contenders appear to be Northwestern and Rutgers.

If IU were to win its first game they’d face the No. 7 seed, which is currently UCLA but could also end up being Purdue, Iowa and Ohio State.

Indiana has never won the Big Ten Tournament.

The 29th Big Ten Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament will be played March 10-15, marking the first Big Ten Tournament to feature an 18-team field.

The No. 15-18 seeds play on March 10 in the first round. The No. 9-14 seeds all get a bye and will play on March 11, while the No. 5-8 seeds get a double-bye and will play on March 12. The winner of those games advance to the fourth round on March 13, where the No. 1-4 seeds, await.

In case of a tie in the regular-season standings, the Big Ten uses the following four tiebreakers in situations with two or more than two tied teams.

    • Head-to-head record, using winning percentage for ties of more than two teams.
    • Record against teams with highest positioning in the conference (best win).
    • Won-loss percentage of all Division 1 opponents (D1 strength of schedule).
    • Previous week’s NET rating.

Here is the bracket for the 18-team field:
