Indiana’s Coaching Staff Completes Hectic Spring Recruiting Period

Want to be a college basketball coach?  Hope you like to travel.  A lot.  The Indiana coaching staff has been all over the midwest and south over the last two weeks as they look to formulate the class of 2019 and put the finishing touches on 2018.

Below is a list of the at least 13 visits that we are aware of, including at least 8 trips out of state.  Almost all of these journeys included head coach Archie Miller, along with other members of the coaching staff.  The lone exception as it relates to Miller’s attendance might have been watching Ethan Morton.

As we detail further below, IU appears to be taking a “go big or go home” approach to its class of 2019.  The power team of Archie Miller, Ed Schilling, Bruiser Flint and Tom Ostrom are using their collective clout to focus on the cream of the crop.

As we have detailed over the last several days, Indiana appears to be in good shape with several members of the 2019 class.  You can follow the links on each player’s name to learn more them, including where the Hoosiers stand in the recruiting process.  A star next to a player’s name indicates that IU has extended an offer.

    April 5 – Trayce Jackson-Davis* (Greenwood, IN)

April 7 – Trendon Watford* (Alabama)

April 7 – Keion Brooks* (Fort Wayne, IN)

April 8 – Matt Mooney (South Dakota – class of 2018, Indiana no longer in contention)

April 13 – Armaan Franklin (Indianapolis)

April 13 – Matthew Hurt* (Minnesota)

    April 15 – D.J. Carton* (Iowa)

April 15 – Isaiah Stewart* (LaPorte, IN)

April 15 – Trey Porter (Virginia – class of 2018))

April 17 – Ethan Morton (Pennsylvania – class of 2020)

April 17 – Jahmius Ramsey* (Florida)

April 17 – Tre Mann* (Florida)

April 18 – Trendon Watford* (Alabama, 2nd visit)

According to the latest rankings by Rivals, every Class of 2019 player that Indiana is pursuing is top 50 caliber overall nationally with the exception of Franklin, and the Hoosiers have not yet offered the Cathedral High School guard.  It appears that IU is going “all-in” on top-50 elite talent:

    5. Matthew Hurt

    10. Isaiah Stewart

    12. Trendon Watford

    22. Trayce Jackson-Davis

    30. DJ Carton

    35. Keion Brooks

    36. Jahmius Ramsey

    37. Tre Mann

Things won’t slow down from here as the IU staff hits the recruiting trail once again for the first of two spring evaluation periods, with Nike, Adidas and Under Armor events taking place in Dallas this weekend, and then in Westfield, Indiana the following weekend.  A number of other events will also be simultaneously occurring for other circuits and younger age groups.

Virtually every class of 2019 IU target will be playing in the Lone Star state this weekend and Westfield next weekend, with most of the Hoosier staff almost certainly there to watch.  Those events are open to the public as well.
