Class of 2024 5-star Liam McNeeley firms up Indiana official visit date

Indiana will welcome one of their top targets in the class of 2024 to the Bloomington campus in late September.

Rising junior forward Liam McNeeley told The Daily Hoosier a couple weeks ago he intended to visit Indiana, and he now has a date set.  The 6-foot-7 point forward will officially visit IU Sept. 23-25 we have confirmed.

Although this is often a time of year when visits align with football games, the IU football team is on the road that weekend at Cincinnati.

Despite playing up a year, McNeeley was one of the top overall performers on the Nike EYBL circuit at the Peach Jam in July.  Over eight games he averaged 17.8 points while shooting 48 percent from the field overall and 37 percent from three, while adding 6.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists.

Assistant coach Brian Walsh is leading the effort for Indiana, and McNeeley has spoken to Mike Woodson on multiple occasions.

“They’ve (Indiana) showed that they really like me,” McNeeley told The Daily Hoosier at Peach Jam in North Augusta, S.C. a couple weeks ago. “They reach out after almost every game.”

When it comes to Indiana, McNeeley doesn’t know a whole lot about the program just yet — that’s what the visit is for. But he does know that it sits in a hoops hotbed, and it’s led by someone who knows what it takes to play in the NBA.

“It’s such a historic basketball state, and coach Mike Woodson, he was in the league longer than I’ve been alive,” McNeeley said.

“He (Woodson) just tells me to keep pushing my game, he loves my versatility. He obviously plays a pro style because he was in the league for so long.”

Originally from Texas, McNeeley will play for Montverde Academy in Florida as a junior.  That’s the same program that produced current Hoosiers Jalen Hood-Schifino and Malik Reneau.

McNeeley is currently ranked No. 18 overall in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports Composite.
