Our “Names to Know” series provides a quick look at IU basketball recruiting targets as their names emerge on the trail. Marquise “M.J.” Rice is a shooting guard from North Carolina. Indiana’s interest in Rice emerged this week when Jason Jordan of Sports Illustrated tweeted about schools that have contacted him. https://twitter.com/MJrice_1/status/1272714463200894976?s=20 The 6-foot-5 Rice has been ranked in the top ten overall in the class of 2022 but slipped a bit after suffering an ACL injury during his sophomore season. Rice averaged 25 points, nine rebounds and two assists a game before tearing his ACL at the Seahawk Classic…

Disappointment brought on by an abbreviated Major League Baseball draft quickly turned into a dream realized for Elijah Dunham. The now former IU outfielder has inked a free agent deal with the New York Yankees. Dunham discussed his decision on his Twitter page: “After much consideration of what is best for my baseball career I have decided to sign a deal with the New York Yankees. It’s time for me to take my opportunity and bet on myself. I’m extremely confident in my abilities and know the Yankees can continue to develop them at the highest level. I first want…
Archie Miller’s recruiting success at IU has been primarily built on a foundation of in-state talent. But Miller hasn’t cast a very wide net thus far when it comes to Indiana based players in the class of 2022. That changed on Wednesday when Indianapolis shooting guard/wing D’Ante Davis announced on this Twitter page that he had received a scholarship offer from Miller and the IU program. https://twitter.com/DanteDavis__/status/1273324768528392195?s=20 The Indiana offer came after a virtual meeting with Miller and the IU staff on Wednesday afternoon. Davis is just the second class of 2022 in-state player that IU has offered. He joins…
It would be easy for Tiawan Mullen to return to Bloomington this summer feeling pretty good about himself. In fact, he should. After forcing incompletions on 30 percent of attempts (2nd in FBS), contesting 42.5 percent of targets (3rd in FBS), and grading out as the third best overall cornerback overall in the Big Ten, Pro Football Focus recently described Mullen as “one of the best true freshman cornerbacks we have ever seen.” That’s high praise, but Mullen arrived on campus hungry a year ago, and he isn’t returning satisfied about anything as a sophomore. “I would like to improve…
After more than three months apart, things are finally starting back up. Thursday marks the beginning of the first Indiana basketball organized team activities since March, and in many ways it will be like starting over. IU men’s basketball players will voluntarily participate, or be volun-told if you prefer, in workouts this week as the first step towards a return to normalcy. After so much time away, and with players in very different circumstances at home, IU head coach Archie Miller referred to the activities commencing this week as akin to a physical restart. From a training and development standpoint,…
Former Indiana basketball forward Christian Watford joined IU sports information director JD Campbell to relive Indiana’s memorable 72-68 win at Michigan State in 2013. The Hoosiers had lost 17 straight — since 1991 — on the road against the Spartans. But in this No. 1 vs. No. 4 matchup the Hoosiers came out on top. As they did so often during the 2012-13 season, IU put several players in double figures. Victor Oladipo led the way with 19 points, while Cody Zeller added 17, and Watford and Jordan Hulls contributed 12 apiece. Credit – IU Athletics Find us on…
This is a week for new class of 2022 names to emerge on the recruiting radar of college basketball programs. Along those lines, a handful of incoming juniors with interest from IU have surfaced over the last couple days. Yesterday we briefly profiled Illinois forward A.J. Casey, and today we look at Milwaukee area based small forward Leon Bond. Evan Flood of 247Sports reported on Monday that IU reached out to Bond. A 6-foot-5 wing for Wauwatosa East High School, Bond is a high level athlete that plays with an attacking mentality. He has good ball handling skills for a…
Indiana basketball class of 2021 recruiting target Trey Patterson made news on Monday night when he cut his list down to Florida, Indiana and Villanova. Patterson will announce his decision on Thursday (his birthday) at 7 p.m. ET. He spoke with The Front Office about the final stages of his process. In the video below Patterson indicates that he has already made his choice. The 6-foot-8 Patterson attends Rutgers Prep in New Jersey. The Somerset, N.J. product averaged 19.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per game for the 2019-20 season and was named first team All-State while leading Rutgers Prep to…
The stadium has been upgraded multiple times. The weight room is massive. Brand new locker rooms were opened last fall. All that is nice, but IU football head coach Tom Allen knows that there is one non-negotiable when it comes to building a football program. You gotta have talent. “The bottom line is, we’re only as good as the guys that we’re coaching,” Allen said at The scheme is only as good as the players running the scheme. I love defense, and I feel like we have a great system, but our system is a whole lot better when we…
There is a growing sentiment that 6-foot-6, 285-pound Joshua Sales will be the next in-state recruiting target to commit to IU. Sales is tabbed by the 247Sports Composite as the nation’s No. 69 offensive tackle in the class of 2021. Kansas, Michigan State, Nebraska and Purdue rounded out Sales’ top five that he named in late April, and he also recently reported an offer from Arizona State. Below are Sales’ junior season highlights while playing for Brownsburg HIgh School in the northwest Indianapolis suburbs.
