13 of IU’s 22 programs earned perfect 1,000 APR scores for the 2020-21 academic year, according to the latest NCAA Academic Progress Report (APR) data released today.

The 13 IU programs that earned a perfect APR score for the 2020-21 academic year are men’s basketball, women’s basketball, women’s cross country, men’s golf, women’s golf, men’s soccer, softball, men’s swimming, women’s swimming, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, volleyball, and wrestling, IU Athletics said in a release.

Three IU programs also earned special recognition for their perfect multi-year scores of 1,000 – men’s and women’s golf and women’s tennis. To earn a perfect multi-year score, those programs recorded perfect APR scores during each of the last four years.

As a department, IU’s combined single-year APR score was 988, and all of IU’s 22 programs easily met the required four-year average of 930 to be eligible for NCAA Championship competition during the 2022-23 season.

“It is a source of pride for our entire department whenever we see how well our students are performing in the classroom, and that is once again the case with our latest APR report,” said IU AD Scott Dolson in a release by the school.

“This is credit not only to our students who put in the work, but also our Academic Services staff led by Lo Price as well as our coaching staffs that emphasize the importance of succeeding academically.”

The APR provides a real-time look at a team’s academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship.  The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team’s academic performance.

The most recent APR scores are based on a multi-year formula of scores from the 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, and 2020-21 academic years.

The IU men’s basketball program had an APR entering Tom Crean’s first season of 866, and after several good years it dropped again during his final three seasons to as low as 943.
