Three quick reasons why Notre Dame beat IU 27-17, highlights, final stats

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Indiana lost to Notre Dame on Friday evening at Notre Dame Stadium by a final score of 27-17.

The three quick reasons why the Hoosiers lost, along with highlights and final stats are below.

Indiana concludes their 2024 season with an 11-2 record.

This breaking story will be updated.  Stay tuned to The Daily Hoosier for more coverage of the game.

THREE QUICK REASONS WHY INDIANA LOST

    1. Major first half turning point.  After a big 3rd and 14 pickup, Indiana was in the Notre Dame red zone early in the first quarter.  But Kurtis Rourke threw an ill-advised pass into the hands of Irish safety Xavier Watts at the Notre Dame two yard line.  On the first play of the ensuing drive, Jeremiyah Love ran 98 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead.  The Hoosiers never recovered from the stunning turn of events.

    2. The offense sputters.  Indiana’s offense couldn’t sustain drives at any point throughout the contest until garbage time.  On their first nine drives IU punted seven times, had the Rourke interception, and kicked a field goal.  The longest of those nine drives was 48 yards and five went for 12 or less.  The Hoosiers amassed just 152 total yards until the final five minute of the game.

    3. Defense can’t get off the field.  Notre Dame, on the other hand, had no trouble moving the football.  The Irish completed four drives of at least 11 plays and they enjoyed a more than 11 advantage in time of possession.  The Irish were balanced, gaining 201 yards through the air and 193 yards on the ground.  They were 7-of-13 on third down.
