BLOOMINGTON — When Josh Hoover thought about his wide receivers at Indiana, he smiled.
Hoover has played with some receivers at TCU that made it to the NFL, namely Savion Williams. But IU’s duo of Charlie Becker and Nick Marsh are an entirely different caliber. Both are projected as potential first round picks in the 2027 NFL Draft. The Athletic released an early mock draft looking through a loaded class for next year, which had Becker at No. 11 and Marsh at No. 20.
“They’re good players,” Hoover said after IU’s spring game. “I have great expectations for both of them. They’re great people, great players, and I’m looking forward to working with them.”
Hoover heaped particular praise on Becker.
Becker stepped up for the Hoosiers in a major way during the second half of the 2025 regular season and the postseason. Elijah Sarratt missed two games and most of a third contest, thrusting Becker into the starting lineup in early November. And the Nashville, Tenn. native made sure head coach Curt Cignetti and offensive coordinator Mike Shanahan would have to keep him in the lineup even when Sarratt returned. He finished the year with 34 receptions for 679 yards and four touchdowns, with one score each in the Rose Bowl and Peach Bowl.
Charlie Becker has added ‘another dimension’ to Indiana football’s offense
The junior was in and out of spring ball with a minor injury, but Hoover is already impressed.
“Charlie, first thing I notice is he’s got a catch radius and he can fly. He’s one of the hardest-working receivers I’ve ever been around, period. And I’ve been around some hard workers who played in the league. And Charlie, he’s one of those guys,” Hoover said. “He’s there every single day, wants to throw, wants to catch, wants to get the extra work in. And as a quarterback, you love that.”
Marsh is one of the biggest prizes of Indiana’s transfer portal haul for the coming season. The junior showed his ability at Michigan State the last two years, with 662 yards and six touchdowns in 2025 and 649 yards and three scores in 2024. Hoover sees similar traits in Marsh as he does in Becker.
“Nick, I mean, he’s the same way. Just a freak athlete. Unbelievable guy, just super good guy, and I love being around him.”
Additionally, Indiana’s quarterback values Tyler Morris’ experience in the slot.
Morris missed the entire 2025 season at Indiana after suffering a knee injury last spring. He last played at Michigan in 2024, recording 248 yards and two touchdowns. Morris won a national title with the Wolverines in 2023.
He’s yet another weapon Hoover will have at his disposal this fall.
“T-Mo’s unbelievable. He’s got great feel. He’s played a lot of football, played at Michigan, and unfortunately missed last year with an injury. But he’s got a lot of feel, a lot of experience. And so someone like that is always really good to have around,” Hoover said. “He’s a playmaker, makes plays on the ball, catches it well. And I’m definitely looking forward to just developing that chemistry with him and all those guys in that room.”
