(Updated: Former Hoosiers Dan Godsil and Jonathan Crawford have been added to NFL 90-man rosters over the last two days
NFL training camps have been opening for rookies over the last few days, and all teams will be underway for both rookies and veterans this week.
At least 14 former IU football players should be reporting to various NFL teams to compete for a roster spot. Some are a sure thing to play in the league in 2019, while others are a long shot.
Here is the complete rundown on the former Hoosier stars that will be putting on an NFL helmet in late July.
SIMMIE COBBS – NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
At this time last year Cobbs was in Washington. He ended the 2018 season on the Saints practice squad after being signed there in December. Cobbs will be back and competing for a roster spot in New Orleans with a decent shot to make the team.
TEVIN COLEMAN – SAN FRANCISCO 49ers
Coleman ended up with career highs in carries, yards and yards per carry 2018. He finished 22nd in the NFL in rushing yards and compiled his first ever 1,000 all-purpose yard season. Now, a new opportunity in San Francisco, and Coleman will compete for carries with the likes of Jerick McKinnon and Matt Breida.
CHRIS COVINGTON – DALLAS COWBOYS
Covington saw limited action in his rookie 2018 season, primarily on special teams. He appears on track to once again make the Dallas roster and will look to find a more expansive role in year number two.
JONATHAN CRAWFORD – TENNESSEE TITANS
Former IU safety Crawford was added to the Titans roster on July 27.

DAN FEENEY – LOS ANGELES CHARGERS
2019 will mark year three for Feeney with the Chargers. He started every game for the Chargers, and was the only player on the team to see every single offensive snap (995) of the season. Feeney also saw 74 snaps on special teams. The former All-American has his detractors in LA and will look to silence them with a breakout year.
DAN GODSIL – CINCINNATI BENGALS
The former Hoosier long snapper was added to the Bengals roster on July 25.
The Bengals signed free-agent OT Andre Smith and LS Dan Godsil today. The team waived WR Kermit Whitfield.

JORDAN HOWARD – PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
Howard has a new home for 2019 and will compete with former Penn State running back Miles Sanders for totes. He finished 14th in the NFL in rushing yards and tied his career high for rushing touchdowns. Howard now has over 3,300 yards for his career.
BRANDON KNIGHT – DALLAS COWBOYS
After not being selected in the 2019 NFL Draft, Knight was quickly signed to a free agent deal with Dallas where he will have a chance to make the 53-man roster.
CODY LATIMER – NEW YORK GIANTS
2019 will mark year six in the NFL Latimer. He had 11 catches for 190 yards and a touchdown in 2018 in an injury shortened season. All Giants receivers will look for an expanded role after the departure of Odell Beckham, Jr.
WES MARTIN – WASHINGTON REDSKINS
Martin was a fourth round selection by Washington in the 2019 NFL Draft and appears to have an outside shot at earning a starting role if things go well during the exhibition season.
ROB McCRAY – KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
Undrafted in 2018, McCray spent his first season on the Chiefs practice squad. He has re-signed with Kansas City and will look to earn a roster spot in 2019.
RODGER SAFFOLD – TENNESSEE TITANS
After becoming the longest tenured Ram and playing in the 2018 Super Bowl, Saffold has moved on to Tennessee for 2019. Among active players, he is the longest tenured Hoosier in the NFL.
TEGRAY SCALES – PITTSBURGH STEELERS
After brief stints with the Rams and Colts in 2018, Scales arrives in Pittsburgh as a long shot to make the 53-man roster, although the Steelers are not deep at inside linebacker.

JASON SPRIGGS – GREEN BAY PACKERS
This will be year four for Spriggs in Green Bay. He has made nine career starts there. Spriggs started in weeks 14 and 15 for Green Bay in 2018. In total Spriggs saw 291 snaps on offense and another 61 on special teams before missing the final two games of the season with a concussion.
NATE SUDFELD – PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
As the third quarterback in 2018, Sudfeld was 1 for 2 for 22 yards and a touchdown on the season. With Nick Foles no longer in Philadelphia, Sudfeld appears to be on track to be the backup to Carson Wentz.
IAN THOMAS – CAROLINA PANTHERS
Thomas took advantage of Greg Olsen injuries throughout the 2018 season to put up a very impressive rookie campaign. His stats over the last five weeks of the season would average out to 80 catches, 787 yards and 6 touchdowns over a full 16 game season.
