Mackenzie Mgbako is IU basketball’s 32nd McDonald’s All-American — see the list

When he announced his commitment to Indiana on Friday, Mackenzie Mgbako became the 32nd IU player who took part in the event since it started in 1977.  The Hoosiers had two players on that inaugural team.

Trayce Jackson-Davis was the most recent player to achieve the prestigious honor.  He’s expected to be selected in the NBA Draft in June.  Prior to TJD, 9 of the last 10 McDonald’s All-Americans from IU went on to see action in the NBA.

Mgbako played for 15 minutes and had a couple rebounds in the 2023 game held on March 28 in Houston.

Transfer center Kel’el Ware was also a McDonald’s All-American.  Although IU didn’t land Ware out of high school, this will be the first time the Hoosiers have had two McDonald’s All-Americans on their roster since James Blackmon, Jr. and Thomas Bryant in 2016-17.

You can see the complete list of former IU basketball McDonald’s All-Americans below.
