Indiana women’s basketball continued its slide on Wednesday.

IU dropped its sixth consecutive game, this one an 82-63 defeat against Washington at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. By the time the Hoosiers take the court for their next game against No. 14 Ohio State on Jan. 22, they’ll have gone over a full month since their last win.

Indiana (11-8, 0-7 Big Ten) is off to its worst start in conference play in Teri Moren’s 12 seasons as head coach. Washington (13-4, 3-3) entered this contest on a two-game losing streak, itself, but the Huskies had little trouble dismantling the Hoosiers all night.

UW dominated this game in the paint. The Huskies shot 64 percent from the field, and scored 54 points in the paint. IU finished with only 20 points inside. Washington went 22 for 28 on layups, while Indiana was 9 for 20.

The Hoosiers’ runs in this game merely prevented UW from running away on the scoreboard even faster, rather than give them a real chance to come back. IU closed the first half on a 7-0 run that cut the deficit to 10 points, but the Huskies didn’t let Moren’s squad cut much further into the lead during the third quarter.

Washington played aggressive defense against IU standout Shay Ciezki in the first quarter, looking to force the ball elsewhere. But the Huskies backed off a bit the rest of the game, looking comfortable that they’d win as long as they kept dominating in the paint, even if Ciezki caught fire. The senior wound up scoring 23 points on 8-of-18 shooting, with a 7-for-11 mark from 3-point range.

Freshman Maya Makalusky played the sidekick role Wednesday, shooting 4 for 7 from beyond the arc and scoring 16 points.

But UCLA transfer Zania Socka-Nguemen had a rough night. She picked up three fouls by the middle of the second quarter, limiting her impact in the first half. But it wasn’t only the foul trouble for IU’s center. She shot 2 for 7 for just four points, and committed five turnovers. Meanwhile, Washington center Yulia Grabovskaia scored 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting.
