IU basketball recruiting: Hoosiers offered 2026 in-state guard Steven Reynolds III

Indiana offered class of 2026 in-state guard Steven Reynolds III while he was in Bloomington for the Michigan State game over the weekend.

Reynolds announced the IU offer on his X account.

The 6-foot-5 shooting guard attends Washington H.S. in South Bend, Ind.  He plays spring and summer basketball for Phenom United on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit.

According to MaxPreps, Reynolds averaged 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 3.2 blocks and 1.2 steals per game as a sophomore.  He shot 42 percent overall, and 30 percent from three.

Reynolds described his skill set to On3’s Jamie Shaw, and said he models his game in-part after a former IU guard.

“I’m a tall guard,” Reynolds told On3. “I can play the point or a combo guard, facilitate, or score for my team. I’ve added weight and good strength., and I can tell that in my game. I watch a lot of Jalen Hood-Schifino, from Indiana, the pace he plays and how he plays the game.”

Pulling players from South Bend to Bloomington hasn’t been common through the years.  There has been recent NBA talent like Jaden Ivey and Blake Wesley, but Damezi Anderson is the only recruit Indiana landed from the city in more than 50 years.

And landing Reynolds won’t be easy.  Of course Notre Dame is always a threat for South Bend talent, and he has two sisters on the Purdue women’s basketball team, and a third headed to West Lafayette next year to join them.

According to the On3 Industry Average, Reynolds is a 4-star and the No. 46 player nationally in the 2026 class.  He’s the top-rated player in Indiana in the sophomore class.

Reynolds’ high major offers include IU, Purdue, Illinois, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Mississippi St, Nebraska, and Texas A&M.
