The class of 2027 has a chance to be the greatest of all-time for IU football.
And why shouldn’t it be? The Hoosiers have gone 27-2 over the last two years, with consecutive College Football Playoff appearances including a 16-0 national championship campaign.
The unprecedented success orchestrated by head coach Curt Cignetti has forced everyone to reexamine what they think they know about Indiana.
And that includes high school recruiting prospects.
One of the top targets on the 2027 board is 5-star in-state wide receiver Monshun Sales. The 6-foot-5 and 205-pound standout is the No. 1 overall ranked receiver in the 2027 class. He just completed his official visit to IU over the weekend, and there is considerable buzz involving Sales and the Hoosiers.
“I think maybe they (Indiana) have grabbed that pole position as this process continues,” Rivals national analyst Steve Wiltfong said of Sales this week following the visit.
Does anyone really know who sits on top for Sales right now? Probably not.
But the trend is the story here. For a long time Sales was thought to be a heavy Alabama lean. He is from Alabama, his nickname is “Bama,” and he has referred to the Crimson Tide as a dream school.
But Sales is serious about IU. He’s been on the Bloomington campus at least five times in the last year. The Lawrence North H.S. product just saw a high school alumnus, Omar Cooper, Jr., become a first round NFL Draft pick, and another LN product, Davion Chandler, is emerging within the IU program.
Cooper, Jr. was one of two IU receivers drafted last week. Elijah Sarratt went in the fourth round. And two more IU receivers — Charlie Becker and Nick Marsh — are projected early-round picks in 2027.
“I think it’s the coaching and preparation,” Sales told Wiltfong about why receivers are thriving at IU. “Being at Indiana you will learn so much and become a smarter player and person.”
In 10 games as a junior at Lawrence North, Sales caught 37 passes for 794 yards and nine touchdowns. averaging 21.5 yards per catch. He plays on both sides of the ball. As a safety he posted 56 tackles.
Unless Sales surprises everyone and ends his recruitment early, IU fans will need to wait a couple months for his final decision.
The finalists for Sales include Alabama, Indiana, Miami, Ohio State and Texas. Sales has official visits scheduled for all of the other schools, and they run into June.
