IU basketball is heavily involved in a deep national recruitment for class of 2027 5-star forward/center Paul Osaruyi.
Indiana offered Osaruyi in December. The IU staff has been involved with him for a year.
The 6-foot-10 Osaruyi attends Bella Vista Prep in Arizona, where he was teammates with incoming IU freshman Vaughn Karvala this past school year. That team won the prep school national championship. Osaruyi was the team’s second leading scorer, and the leading rebounder and shot-blocker.
The 18-year-old is a product of Scarborough in Ontario, Canada.
In the average of the national rankings, Osaruyi is a 5-star prospect and the No. 6 overall player in the 2027 class.
He had considered moving up to the 2026 class but appears to have chosen to remain in 2027.
For travel basketball, Osaruyi plays for Arizona Unity on the Nike EYBL circuit. He’s averaging 7.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.1 blocks this spring.
Against elite national competition playing for Bella Vista in EYBL Scholastic games, Osaruyi averaged 8.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.
While he is a skilled big man and shows potential as a shooter, shooting threes is not a big part of his game yet. He made 4 of 27 from long range on the EYBL Scholastic circuit.
Multiple outlets are reporting Osaruyi has visits set up to Arkansas and North Carolina. That will be the marker to watch for in Indiana’s effort. If the staff can get him on campus, they’ll have a shot.
In addition to IU — North Carolina, Arkansas, Creighton, Houston, West Virginia, Kentucky, Texas, Virginia, Oregon, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Oklahoma State, Kansas, BYU, UCLA and Arizona State are among his offers.
