A pair of former college football quarterbacks weighed in this week on what they’ve seen from IU quarterback Josh Hoover lately.
Over the last two weeks against Michigan and Minnesota, Hoover has completed 16 of 37 (43.2%) of his throws with one touchdown and two interceptions.
FOX color commentator Joel Klatt called Indiana’s games against Nebraska, Ohio State and Michigan. He said on the Joel Klatt Show this week that during the Ohio State game he noticed Hoover wincing after throws.
“He clearly has not been right since the Ohio State game,” said Klatt, who played quarterback for Colorado from 2002-05.
Hoover was injured during the second half of that game, and Klatt believes the 5th-year QB has a throwing arm issue. He speculates it’s Hoover’s right shoulder.
“He’s missing high, particularly over the middle,” Klatt said. “When you lose accuracy, you lose confidence. And that’s what we’re seeing with Josh Hoover right now.”
“I think they (Indiana) have a quarterback decision to make,” Klatt said.
Meanwhile, former Florida State star quarterback Danny Kanell said he thinks Hoover is “hurt way worse than they’re letting on” on the Cover 3 podcast.
Kanell says he considered many of Hoover’s passes “awkward,” and added “I think Hoover’s pretty banged up.”
DON FISCHER HAS A MESSAGE FOR THE BOO BIRDS
Did you ever think you’d live to see the day when 8-1 wasn’t good enough for IU football? Coming off a 16-0 national championship?
That’s the case for some in the ever-growing IU fan base.
There were audible boos in Memorial Stadium Saturday as the IU offense and special teams struggled against Minnesota.
Like many of you, legendary IU radio voice Don Fischer has seen the dark side of Indiana football — a program that until recently had the most losses in FBS history, and before last year hadn’t won a postseason game since 1991.
Somehow we’ve gone from that bleak history to booing a team that has gone 35-3 over the last three seasons.
In a radio interview with Heartland Sports, Fischer had strong words for the boo birds:
IU radio voice Don Fischer joins Sam Michel to discuss the reaction from Hoosier fans at Memorial Stadium and the question everyone seems to have an opinion on: Is booing your own team ever justified?
Hear Don’s perspective on the situation and what it says about Indiana fans.

CFP PROJECTIONS
We can start ignoring the AP Top-25 Tuesday evening — if you weren’t already.
The first College Football Playoff rankings will be released Tuesday evening on ESPN (7 p.m. ET).
The biggest question for 8-1 Indiana is whether the Hoosiers have done enough to this point to earn a first round bye. In this final year of the 12-team playoff, only the top four teams get byes. IU is No. 3 in the coaches poll and No. 6 in the AP poll, so they appear to be straddling the bye line at the moment.
Seeds No. 1-4 get byes in the CFP, while seeds No. 5-8 host first round games, and seeds No. 9-12 travel in round one.
Here’s a sampling of the seeds some outlets are currently projecting for Indiana ahead of the first release:
- Mark Schlabach: No. 11 seed.
- Kyle Bonagura: No. 7 seed.
- Heather Dinich: No. 6 seed.
CBS Sports: No. 5-seed
The Athletic: No. 7 seed
NCAA.com: No. 7 seed
