More than a dozen production companies pursued exclusive access to Indiana’s football program to produce a documentary on its historic 2025 national championship season, Deadline reported this week.
Shadow Lion, the company founded by NFL legend Tom Brady, and Jigsaw Productions will jointly produce the documentary which will be called Misfits.
One of the executive producers at Jigsaw, Courtney Sexton, is an IU alumna.
The doc promises to be the “definitive telling of Indiana football’s astonishing transformation throughout the 2025-26 football season, charting how a ragtag roster of overlooked players overturned decades of failure to play a perfect 16-0 season and become one of college football’s most unlikely victors,” Deadline says.
“Those of us in and around the program felt deeply privileged to be first-hand witnesses to one of the most remarkable turnarounds in sports history. We are proud to share this captivating story with a global audience,” IU AD Scott Dolson said in a release.
The Misfits title comes from when quarterback Fernando Mendoza shared center Pat Coogan’s pregame address to the team before the 2025 regular season finale at Purdue.
“He (Coogan) was like, ‘look at us, a bunch of misfits, guys from FCS, G5, JMU coming up, bunch of transfers, rejects that got replaced at their old school now at Indiana, and now we have a chance to go 12-0,” Mendoza said.
“All the misfits from across the nation coming together and becoming 12-0 for the first time in Indiana Hoosiers history.”
Production on the documentary will begin this fall, says Deadline.
