BLOOMINGTON — Indiana lost to Nebraska on Wednesday evening at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall by a final score of 85-70.

Nebraska led 51-31 at halftime.  The Hoosiers were led in the game by Mackenzie Mgbako with 22 points.

The three keys to the game, highlights and final stats are below.

Indiana (14-12, 6-9) will next travel to Penn State on Saturday.

    THREE KEYS TO THE GAME

    1. A massive first half hole.  Indiana fell behind 40-22 with 6:01 left in the first half, and the deficit swelled to 22 in the opening minute of the second half.  IU pulled all the way to within three — 59-56 with 11:27 left, but ran out of gas.  The Cornhuskers were 9-of-19 from three in the first half, led by Keisei Tominaga, who had 18 points at the break.

    2. Broken record, limited backcourt scoring.  Once again, the IU guards struggled to score.  54 of Indiana’s 70 points came via the starting front court — Mackenzie Mgbako (22), Kel’el Ware (17) and Malik Reneau (15).  Starting guard Gabe Cupps was shutout and went 0-of-6 from the field.  Fellow starter Trey Galloway had eight points but added six turnovers.  C.J. Gunn and Anthony Leal made just 3-of-13 shots off the bench.

    3. Broken record, threes and frees.  Indiana shot just 4-of-21 (19 percent) from the three-point arc, and 14-of-24 (58.3 percent) from the free throw line.  Ware really struggled at the stripe, making just 5-of-13.  While Mgbako scored a career-high 22 points, he was just 2-of-8 from long range.  Gunn made IU’s other two threes, both big second half makes as part of the rally, but he finished just 2-of-7 from beyond the arc.
