BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — In the 2025-26 season opener and debut of new head coach Darian DeVries, Indiana defeated Alabama A&M Wednesday evening at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall by a final score of 98-51.

IU led 58-22 at halftime.  They were led in the game by Reed Bailey with 21 points.  Lamar Wilkerson added 19.

The three keys to the game, final stats and highlights are below.

Indiana (1-0) heads to Chicago to face Marquette on Sunday at the United Center.

    THREE KEYS TO THE GAME

    1. Hyper-efficient offense.  Indiana was efficient from everywhere — inside, outside and at the stripe.  The Hoosiers carved-up the Bulldogs with an array of back cuts and slips to the rim, leading the way to 52 points in the paint.  IU was also 10 of 24 from three and a perfect 16-of-16 from the stripe.  The Hoosiers had 23 assists on 36 field goals.  The scoring was balanced as well, with five Hoosiers at or above 14 points.

    2. But that defense though.  It was total domination on both ends by IU.  Alabama A&M shot just 34% from the field and turned it over 11 times.  Based on the live stats, the Bulldogs scored just .75 points per possession.  Indiana was especially effective in the first half, when the Bulldogs shot just 28.6% and went 0 of 4 from three.

    3. Hoosiers dominate the glass.   Alabama A&M may not be the best team to evaluate IU’s rebounding prowess.  But the Hoosiers were concerned about the rebounding margin coming out of their exhibition against Baylor, and they showed signs of progress, winning the glass 42-19.  To be sure, some of the margin was a result of the shooting discrepancy — IU had a lot more A&M misses to grab.  But Indiana held the Bulldogs to just three offensive rebounds.
