BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana lost to Michigan State Sunday afternoon at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall by a final score of 77-64.

The three keys to the game, highlights and final stats are below.

Michigan State led 45-37 at halftime.  The Hoosiers were led in the game by Lamar Wilkerson with 29 points.  Tucker DeVries added 20.

Indiana (17-12, 8-10) hosts Minnesota on Wednesday.

    THREE KEYS TO THE GAME

    1. Spartans from three.  Michigan State had what seemed like a never ending arsenal of dagger three-pointers.  Late shot clock, IU run killers, you name it, MSU had it.  Kur Teng was the primary culprit, with a 6 of 8 game from long range.  Overall MSU was 12 of 24 from distance, better than their 13 of 27 performance from two.  Jaxson Kohler made 3 of 5 from long range as he stretched the IU defense, and Jeremy Fears made a couple big ones too.  The timely threes helped MSU maintain their lead throughout the game.

    2. Early 13 point deficits.  Indiana fell behind 26-13 in the first half.  IU cut that lead to eight, but the Hoosiers fell behind again 39-26 before the break.  The No. 13 Spartans were too good, too complete on both ends for this Indiana team to rally against.  Indiana cut the lead to five on a couple occasions in the second half, but they’d get no closer.  The Hoosiers started the game just 3 of 15 from the field over this first 10 minutes plus, which lined up with the early 26-13 deficit.

    3. Not enough contributors in the scoring column.  Lamar Wilkerson had a massive second half for Indiana, and Tucker DeVries was steady throughout.  But with Indiana’s offense struggling for long stretches, the Hoosiers needed others to step up.  Wilkerson and DeVries combined for 49 of IU’s 64 points, as the IU offense shot just 39.3% from three.  They were the only two Indiana players who scored from the field in the second half.
