BLOOMINGTON — Indiana lost to Iowa Saturday afternoon at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall by a final score of 74-57.

The three keys to the game, highlights and final stats are below.

Iowa led 38-28 at halftime.  The Hoosiers were led in the game by Tayton Conerway with 16 points.

Indiana (12-6, 3-4) will travel to Michigan for a Tuesday contest.

    THREE KEYS TO THE GAME

    1. Indiana struggles to contain Stirtz.  Iowa guard Bennett Stirtz was a handful on Saturday afternoon.  The senior had Conor Enright in foul trouble early, and Tayton Conerway injured his ankle trying to stay with him.  Stirtz scored 27 points and added five assists.  Playing off of Stirtz, Tavion Banks poured in 26, as the Hawkeye duo nearly outscored Indiana by themselves.  Led by that pair, Iowa shot 50% from the field and scored 1.3 points per possession, delivering head coach Ben McCollum his first road win with the Hawkeyes.

    2. Iowa limits DeVries and Wilkerson.  Iowa kept Indiana’s primary scoring weapons Tucker DeVries and Lamar Wilkerson in check, holding them both to single digits in the scoring column. The pair combined to make just 5 of 19 shots from the field including 3 of 11 from three.  Forced to look elsewhere for points, Indiana struggled as a team.  The Hoosiers shot just 38.5% from the field overall, including just 25% from three.  IU had just nine assists against nine turnovers.

    3.  Hoosiers start slow, can’t dig out.  Indiana’s offense struggled out of the gate, and that led to an early double-digit deficit.  The Hoosiers trailed 10-2 with 13:09 left in the first half, and 24-13 with 7:55 remaining before the break.  IU chipped away to close to within four or five points multiple times, but in each instance Iowa had answers, frustrating the Hoosiers with methodical offense and suffocating defense.  Indiana started the game 1 of 12 from the field, before making 10 of their next 11.  But Iowa made 9 of 10 during that same first half stretch.
