Iowa’s Ben McCollum
Once a decorated Division II head coach, Ben McCollum is now in his second season as a Division I head coach, and his first with the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was named their head coach on March 24, 2025.
McCollum began his head coaching career with Northwest Missouri State and enjoyed a prolific 15-season stint at that level. In those seasons, he led his team to 12 NCAA Division II Tournament appearances and won four national titles with the Bearcats. His success led him to multiple national and conference coach of the year awards, as well as an induction into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
Last season, McCollum took the head coaching job at Drake, left behind by Darian DeVries. What was expected to be an adjustment period for McCollum turned into dominance in the MVC. McCollum led the Bulldogs to a 31-4 overall record with a 17-3 clip in conference. Drake won both the regular season and MVC tournament titles and went on to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament.

OG’s Pick
Overall: 13-3
In my mind, a lot of this matchup comes down to whether Indiana can limit Bennett Stirtz. Stirtz has proven to be one of the best players in the Big Ten and can beat you in a variety of different ways. I do like the matchup potential with Enright matching up against him, but he, and all of the other Hoosiers have to stay out of foul trouble.
Iowa’s defense also poses a challenge, and IU will have to get other players besides Lamar Wilkerson involved. I think this one is another one that comes down to final possessions, but give me Indiana to come away with it.
Pick: Indiana 75 – Iowa 71
