Former IU running back Kaelon Black has signed his first NFL contract with the San Francisco 49ers.
Black was selected in the third round by San Francisco in last month’s NFL Draft.
According to Spotrac, Black signed a 4-year, $6,829,276 contract with the 49ers, including a $1,426,744 signing bonus, $1,426,744 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $1,707,319. In 2026, Black will earn a base salary of $885,000 and the signing bonus of $1,426,744.
The 49ers took Black with the No. 90 overall pick. He appears set to wear No. 26 for San Francisco. Former IU running back Tevin Coleman also wore that number for the franchise.
Black was not invited to the NFL Draft Combine but ended up being the third overall running back selected.
He was IU’s second-leading rusher in 2025, with 1,040 yards on 186 attempts and 10 touchdowns.
In San Francisco, Black is competing for the No. 2 back role behind Christian McCaffrey.
“Kaelon Black, you hear this story a lot as the process went, just kept feeling better and better and better,” 49ers GM John Lynch told the media after he was selected. “His film speaks for itself. Really hard-running kid, rocked up kid, had an opportunity to visit with him at the Senior Bowl, and you can’t help but love the kid and everything he stands for.”
