Former IU basketball stars Jalen Hood-Schifino and Trayce Jackson-Davis have landed lucrative contracts after being drafted in the NBA last month.

Chosen No. 17 overall in the first round by Los Angeles, Hood-Schifino should be set for life.

According to Spotrac, the one-and-done star signed a 4 year / $17,882,808 contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, including $17,882,808 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $4,470,702. In 2023-24, Hood-Schifino will earn a base salary of $3,695,040, while carrying a cap hit of $3,695,040 and a dead cap value of $3,695,040.

Chosen No. 57 overall in the second round by Golden State, Jackson-Davis landed a solid contract relative to his draft position.

Also according to Spotrac, Jackson-Davis signed a 4 year / $7,639,302 contract with the Golden State Warriors, including $3,011,420 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $1,909,826. In 2023-24, Jackson-Davis will earn a base salary of $1,119,563, while carrying a cap hit of and a dead cap value of $1,119,563.

    JUST THE BEGINNING

Hood-Schifino and Jackson-Davis now begin their quest for a second NBA contract.  That’s when the money gets crazy.

Fans will often say “he should have stayed in school” when referencing former IU stars who left college early.

But the money in the NBA is good, and the kids are doing alright.

Here are the estimated career earnings for the current Hoosiers in the NBA, according to Spotrac:

    • Eric Gordon:  $176,573,293 (15 seasons) – signed with Phoenix
    • Victor Oladipo:  $115,314,581 (10 seasons) — signed with Oklahoma City
    • Cody Zeller: $75,639,182 (10 seasons) — signed with New Orleans
    • OG Anunoby: $43,037,935 (6 seasons) — under contract with Toronto
    • Thomas Bryant:  $28,827135 (6 seasons) — signed with Miami
    • Romeo Langford:  $16,312,067 (4 seasons) — free agent
