Bettendorf Iowa’s D.J. Carton has narrowed his list down to three teams. The class of 2019 five-star point guard made the announcement on Sunday evening via Twitter: https://twitter.com/DJCarton/status/1016080169952595968 The key word from his tweet appears to be “final.” After rumors and speculation about other programs entering the mix such as Duke, North Carolina and Kansas, it appears that Carton has eliminated new suitors and will focus on his final three teams: Indiana, Michigan and Ohio State. Carton had previously released a top six in May that also included Marquette, Xavier, and Iowa. Today’s announcement is major disappointment to Iowa fans…

This is the second in a five-part series on the historic home courts of the Indiana University basketball program. Today we take a look at the second home of the Hoosiers — the Men’s Gymnasium on 7th Street. A HYSTERIA GROWS By 1915, the popularity of college athletics was accelerating rapidly, and it didn’t take long for the relatively new original Assembly Hall to be viewed as inadequate. With the student body petitioning for a new facility, IU began exploring alternatives and ultimately landed on a plan to construct a new state-of-the-art facility. An August 15, 1915 Sunday Indianapolis Star headline…
Rivals has updated its class of 2020 Top 125, with a number of Indiana targets included in the list. This may be a class where Indiana ends up focusing a bit more outside of the Hoosier state. The conventional wisdom right now is that the class of 2020 is not as elite in-state as the classes of 2019 and 2021. To that end, there may not end up being any in-state five star players. Nevertheless, there are two Indiana players in the Rivals rankings — Anthony Leal and Trey Galloway. Leal entered the rankings for the first time after an…
As we previously reported, six former Indiana University men’s basketball players are participating in the NBA Summer League. Since that report, Thomas Bryant has been waived by the Lakers and picked up by the Wizards. He will now play for the Wizards in the Summer League. Robert Johnson (Atlanta) and Christian Watford (Memphis) have already participated in summer action in Salt Lake City earlier this week. Johnson appeared in two games in Salt Lake City, averaging 13 minutes, 3.5 points, and 1.5 rebounds on 30% shooting from the field. Watford did not appear in Memphis’ games in Salt Lake City.…
If you follow Indiana’s class of 2019 college basketball recruiting targets closely like we do, you’ve noticed some positive noise this week around Keion Brooks, Jr. as it relates to Indiana. That’s the good news. First, the Rivals national team of Eric Bossi, Corey Evans, Dan McDonald, and Krysten Peek made predictions earlier this week on a number of 2019 prospects, including Brooks. Bossi, Evans and Peek all see Brooks landing in Bloomington. McDonald gives the edge to Michigan State. We were pleasantly surprised to see a majority thinking IU was in the lead. That being said, they are just predictions in…
It was no secret. Despite a thunderous start, Tom Crean lost his way recruiting within the borders of Indiana. After securing the likes of Jordan Hulls, Cody Zeller, Yogi Ferrell and others, things went south in-state. If Crean had continued to win at a high level, it would not have mattered. But when you are missing on Gary Harris, Zak Irvin, Caleb Swanigan, Trey Lyles and Kyle Guy — and you are missing the NCAA Tournament — well, you know what happened. We’ve said it before, and at this point there is really no denying it. As the head coach…
According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, Indiana will start a home-and-home series with Arkansas beginning with the upcoming 2018-19 season. Based on the report, the series will begin in Arkansas this season and then move to Indiana for the 2019-20 season. https://twitter.com/JonRothstein/status/1014231357395013632 The game is part of a four-game exempt event called the Hardwood Showcase. Indiana will reportedly play UT Arlington, UC Davis and Montana State at home as a part of the event. Arkansas plays its home games at the Bud Walton Arena which has a seating capacity of 19,368. It has proven to be a valuable…
The Rivals recruiting service has updated its class of 2019 college basketball recruiting player rankings today. The top overall ranked Indiana target is Hopkins, Minnesota native Matthew Hurt in 5th place nationally. La Lumiere’s Isaiah Stewart comes in right behind him in 6th place. D.J. Carton, who completed an official visit to Indiana this past weekend, was the only Hoosier target to move up to five-star status. The Bettendorf, Iowa point guard moved up 13 positions. Brandon Newman only moved up one spot in this update, but he has moved up more than 50 spots in the rankings since the…
It didn’t take long for former Indiana center Thomas Bryant to find a new home. After being released over the weekend by Los Angeles, Bryant was picked up off waivers by the Washington Wizards today. https://twitter.com/WashWizards/status/1013924242377895941 Bryant appeared in 15 games this past season for the Lakers. He averaged 1.5 points and 1.1 rebounds in limited minutes. He saw his most extensive NBA action of the season in April. In the final game of the year, Bryant played 18 minutes and set career highs with 6 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. The former Hoosier star spent most of the…
The national search to replace former IU head baseball coach Chris Lemonis was a short one. Indiana has announced that former Wright State head coach Jeff Mercer will take over the reigns of the Hoosier baseball program. https://twitter.com/IndianaBase/status/1013905986460012548 Here’s the full release from IU: BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass today announced the hiring of Jeff Mercer as the 25th head coach of the Hoosiers baseball program.
