4-star freshman safety Byron Baldwin will have the opportunity to make his college debut on Saturday against Michigan State. On IU’s injury report through each of the first six games, Baldwin is available on Saturday and on the field warming up.  Baldwin appeared to have a chance to play meaningful snaps coming out of fall camp. Indiana has a steady starting contingent at safety, with Louis Moore, Amare Ferrell and Devan Boykin seeing almost all of the snaps for the No. 3 Hoosiers so far in 2025. But Indiana lacks depth on the back end of their defense, especially after…

IU football coach Curt Cignetti took a risk to become a head coach at age 50. His last salary as an Alabama receivers coach in 2010 was $250,000.  And his first salary as a head coach the next year in 2011 was $125,000, at the other Indiana University — in Pennsylvania. Cignetti said last year he was reluctant to tell his Hall of Fame father Frank he was making that move. “I did not tell him I was going to take the IUP job because I knew what he was going to say. I called him the night before and…

Indiana got a jolt of stability when Curt Cignetti signed a new 8-year deal this week, and said he plans to retire at the school. Meanwhile, one of the schools widely rumored to have been pursuing Cignetti continues to spiral. Penn State fired James Franklin last weekend, and their once promising recruiting class of 2026 is crumbling. One of the top players in that Nittany Lions class — 6-foot and 185-pound safety Matt Sieg — is visiting Bloomington this weekend. According to national 247Sports recruiting analyst Tom Loy, Sieg will visit IU’s sold out game vs. Michigan State this weekend,…

Exhibitions often present an opportunity to go deep into the bench and test various lineups. Indiana won’t have that luxury when it hosts Marian Friday evening in Bloomington (7:30 p.m. ET, BTN Plus). Junior wing Nick Dorn is nearing a return from a foot injury, but he won’t play against the Knights. “Starting to work his way back into some action. Don’t anticipate him playing any tomorrow night,” IU coach Darian DeVries said Thursday of Dorn.  “The (Oct. 26) Baylor game I would probably say doubtful as well. We’ll see where that leads. “We’re certainly getting closer to getting him…

In so many ways, Indiana basketball has turned the page. There won’t be any familiar faces on the IU bench Friday evening when the Darian DeVries era unofficially tips off via an exhibition matchup in Bloomington. Not only is DeVries the new head coach — replacing former star player Mike Woodson — but the assistants are all new, the players are all new (save for a couple walk-ons), and the support staff is all new. While DeVries has said multiple times he fully embraces IU basketball’s rich history, he’s ushering in this next phase of the program with a total…
