IU has announced that three athletes will share the school’s “Athlete of the Year” honor in connection with the 2020-21 athletics year ended on June 30. Women’s basketball’s Grace Berger, men’s soccer’s Victor Bezerra and diver Andrew Capobianco all claimed the distinction. Each of the three were able to achieve significant individual accomplishments while helping their respective teams compete at the very top of their sports. New Indiana University president Pamela Whitten took office on July 1, and it didn’t take her long to make her first tour of the athletics facilities on the north end of campus. IU released several photos and videos of Whitten with IU AD Scott Dolson, basketball coach Mike Woodson, football coach Tom Allen, women’s basketball coach Teri Moren, along with several athletes. She is the first woman to ever be named president of IU. Prior to being named president at Kennesaw State in 2018, she was the senior vice president for academic affairs and provost for the University of Georgia.…
Watch below as freshman running back Trent Howland met with the media for an introductory Q&A session. The 6-foot-3 and 230 pound Howland arrived in Bloomington from Joliet West High School in Illinois. Joliet West did not play in 2020 due to COVID-19, and Howland would not have played anyway as he recovers from an injury. He was named the Southwest Prairie Conference Most Valuable Player as a junior when he led the program to its first conference championship in 50 years. Indiana spent a week in Asheville in 2020. This year, a piece of the North Carolina city will make a stop in Bloomington. According to a report by college basketball reporter Rocco Miller, Indiana will host UNC-Ashville in a nonconference game set for Dec. 29 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. This is the eighth nonconference game to emerge for the 2021-22 season of 11 that will be scheduled. One of the class of 2022 recruiting targets Indiana fans are watching with keen interest significantly narrowed things down on Saturday afternoon. Brebeuf High School (Indianapolis, Ind.) defensive end Joe Strickland named the final three school he is considering. Indiana, along with Purdue and west coast academic powerhouse Stanford also made the cut. Strickland is a 4-star prospect, ranked No. 227 nationally in the 2022 class overall by the 247Sports Composite, and he is the No. 32 defensive lineman.
