(This story was updated after an IU release indicated the two players to be recognized on Senior Night.) Indiana lists six players as a senior or redshirt senior on its 2021-22 roster. But in a twist only possible after the oddity that has been the last two years, all of the six are eligible to return for an additional year of college basketball next season if they so choose. So as Senior Night approaches Wednesday against Rutgers, does IU truly have any seniors in the traditional sense? Not really. But head coach Mike Woodson says two players will be recognized…
A terrifying ordeal in war torn Ukraine is over for former IU basketball player Maurice Creek. “It took me 12 hours but finally out of Ukraine,” Creek posted on his Twitter page at about 6:10 p.m. Eastern on Monday, U.S. time. Earlier on Monday, the 31 year-old reported he was traveling out of the country. Creek was stranded in Mykolaiv, Ukraine, while playing for Ukrainian Basketball SuperLeague. The Russian invasion of Ukraine broke out last week. “I just want to say this is probably the scariest situation I’ve been in,” Creek told The Daily Hoosier on Friday afternoon. “I can’t…

It is crunch time now, and Indiana is squarely on the NCAA Tournament bubble. Selection Sunday is just under two weeks away, and with IU basketball in the mix The Daily Hoosier continues to check in each week to see where they stand in the eyes of the bracketologists. Our favorite resource for bracket predictions is bracketmatrix.com, an aggregation site that compiles dozens of prognostications and produces an average. Currently at Bracket Matrix, Indiana is in the field as a No. 12 seed. While many bracket predictions have not been updated to reflect IU’s win at Minnesota, this still directionally reflects…
A rough finish has left Indiana with a more difficult path to a Big Ten Tournament crown. Four losses in their final five games of the regular season means the IU women dropped to the No. 5 seed in the conference tournament. The Big Ten Conference has announced the full bracket for the 29th Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament that will take place March 2-6 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. As a No. 5 seed, the Hoosiers will only get a single-bye. Their first game will be on Thursday at around 1:45 p.m. Eastern (BTN) against the winner of a…
Well that was interesting. Indiana followed a dominant 32 minutes with a near-disastrous collapse, but the result is what matters on the NCAA Tournament resume. And that was an 84-79 Big Ten road win for IU at Minnesota. Indiana toyed with pulling away in the first half but could never extend their lead beyond 12, and they led 40-33 at halftime. IU started the second half red hot and went on a 30-10 run to go up by 27 points with 8:21 left. But Minnesota managed an unbelievable 36 points over the final eight minutes and pulled to within three…

The Hoosiers led 40-33 at halftime and were led in the game by Xavier Johnson with 24 points and 8 assists. Trayce Jackson-Davis added 14 points and 8 rebounds. IU (18-10, 9-9) will host Rutgers for Senior Night on Wednesday. This breaking story will be updated with highlights and expanded stats. THREE KEYS TO THE GAME 1. Johnson does it again. Point guard Xavier Johnson had his second straight dominant performance with 24 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds against just one turnover. …
Indiana’s razor thin point guard depth could get a boost on Sunday evening in Minneapolis. Senior Rob Phinisee is warming up with his teammates and appears ready to at least attempt to play as IU takes on Minnesota at Williams Arena. IU Athletics later confirmed Phinisee is expected to play. On his pre-game radio interview, head coach Mike Woodson indicated Phinisee might not play a major role in his first game back, however. The Hoosiers have played with only Xavier Johnson available at point guard over the last couple games. Out since suffering a plantar fascia injury on Jan. 26,…
