In a season where it seems like nothing has gone according to plan, Indiana’s constant has been at linebacker. Coming off a 2020 season that saw him earn second and third team All-American honors by two outlets, Micah McFadden was in many ways the poster-boy of the high expectations surrounding IU’s 2021 season. Each week it seemed there was a new preseason watch list with his name on it, including the Bednarik Award, Butkus Award and Bronko Nagurski Trophy. Never was his value to this Indiana football team more apparent than when McFadden was ejected during the first half of…

Superstitious Indiana fans probably like the approach Noah Clowney will use to announce his college decision. The 6-foot-10 class of 2022 4-star forward is set to announce his choice at 5 p.m. Eastern on Monday afternoon. Clowney will make the announcement live on CBS Sports HQ. That is the same outlet recent IU verbal commits Jalen Hood-Schifino and Jakai Newton used to make their announcements. Fans can watch Clowney’s announcement for free. Hailing from Roebuck, S.C., Clowney is down to a final three of Alabama, Indiana and Virginia Tech. He took an official visit to IU in late August and…
Indiana Athletics announced earlier this week that it will be recognizing the 50-year anniversary of Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall over the course of the 2021-22 season. Mike Woodson played there from 1976 to 1980, and on Nov. 9 he will become the seventh head coach to lead the Hoosiers onto the Branch McCracken Court. Since the building opened in 1971 IU basketball has played 744 games in front of a total of 12,157,892 fans, and they have amassed a 612-132 (.823) record. With all of that history to comb through, coming up with a list of the top-10 IU wins…
When Bob Knight returned to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall for a game in 2020, Mike Woodson was asked if the IU basketball coaching legend would make any return trips to the place he spent 30 years as head coach. “Hope so,” was Woodson’s response at the time. Little did Woodson, Knight, or anyone else know how much would change over the last 20 months. Now Knight is coming back to watch his former player sit in his old seat as the head coach of the program. On Thursday Knight attended practice and Woodson posted the above photo on his Twitter…

Indiana should take on a whole new look at the point guard spot when the season tips on Nov. 9, and one of the main reasons why is their depth at the position. Since Yogi Ferrell played his last game in 2016, the Hoosiers haven’t had an elite primary ball-handler, and they certainly haven’t had depth at the one spot. And it is probably no coincidence that they haven’t played in an NCAA Tournament since then either. Head coach Mike Woodson wants to play up-tempo on offense, and he wants to put pressure on the ball on defense. As the…
Tom Allen didn’t come out and say it, but based on his Thursday morning comments Indiana appears likely to be without both Michael Penix, Jr. and Jack Tuttle this weekend at Maryland. Penix suffered an injury to his throwing shoulder at Penn State four weeks ago and hasn’t seen the field since, and Tuttle has a foot injury that occurred last weekend against Ohio State. “Both (Tuttle and Penix) have been rehabbing strongly, even throwing some, so both are progressing in that direction, but the predominant snaps (at practice) were Donaven (McCulley) and Grant (Gremel),” Allen said. “Since they’ve had…
The quarterbacks have shouldered much of the blame for Indiana’s dismal offensive performance to this point in what has been a highly disappointing 2021 campaign. And there is good reason for that. IU quarterbacks have thrown 10 interceptions this season, a figure that places the program at No. 117 out of 130 teams nationally. The Hoosiers are also No. 99 with just 196 passing yards per game despite needing to throw the football throughout six of seven games. They are also No. 122 in completion percentage (52.6) and No. 127 in passer rating. But the picture is not much prettier…

After being named a preseason first team AP All-American on Tuesday, this one was a bit of a foregone conclusion. Indiana’s Trayce Jackson-Davis was voted to the preseason All-Big Ten team the league announced on Wednesday. No other Hoosiers were voted to the 11-man squad. Illinois junior center Kofi Cockburn has been named the 2021-22 Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year as chosen by a select media panel, the conference office announced Wednesday. A first-team All-Big Ten honoree in 2020-21, Cockburn was the only player in the country last season to average at least 15 points and nine rebounds…
