Darian DeVries suffered his first high school recruiting decision day loss this afternoon. 4-star wing Sammy Jackson surprised many Wednesday when he picked perennial mid-major power Virginia Commonwealth over Indiana and Texas, along with St. Joe’s. Jackson announced the decision at his high school.  His father, long-time NBA player Marc Jackson, also started his college career at VCU before transferring to Temple. A Philadelphia product, Jackson chose to play at VCU for another product of his hometown.  New VCU head coach Phil Martelli, Jr. played at St. Joe’s in Philadelphia. In the age of revenue sharing, college athletic departments need to find more ways to raise money. More games means more television revenue, and it seems we may be entering the era of more action on the courts and fields throughout the college landscape. One of the first signs of that came Wednesday, when CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander reported the NCAA is expected to approve an expansion of the college basketball season from 31 to 32 games.  Norlander says the move is being done to encourage even more high-profile nonconference games. When it comes to recruiting, two is better than one. According to a report by Sam Kayser, Indiana is in contact with class of 2026 4-star forward twins Gallagher and Gavin Placide.  They are described in the 6-foot-8 to 6-foot-10 range by various outlets. Gallagher is the No. 77 player in the class according to the industry average, and the No. 9 power forward.  Gavin is the No. 53 player and the No. 18 small forward. Indiana’s strong class of 2026 took a big hit on Tuesday evening. Just days after his official visit to his father’s alma mater, 4-star defensive back Jay Timmons announced he’s flipping his verbal pledge from IU to Florida State. As we’ve covered here in recent weeks, Timmons telegraphed this move with his comments about Florida State and ultimately his decision to visit Tallahassee over the weekend. The Basketball Tournament (TBT) – the $1 million, winner-take-all summer basketball event broadcast live on FOX Sports – will see the return of Assembly Ball, an Indiana University alumni team. Assembly Ball, alongside All Good Dawgs (Butler Alumni), will serve as co-hosts of the Indianapolis Regional at Hinkle Fieldhouse from July 19-22. Indiana cashed in on Iowa’s loss. Just days after he decommitted from the Hawkeyes, class of 2026 quarterback Cash Herrera visited Indiana over the weekend. And now Curt Cignetti has signal-caller for the 2026 class.  On Monday Herrera announced he has flipped his commitment from Iowa to IU. Herrera is a 3-star and the No. 42 QB in the class according to the average of the national recruiting sites. Assembly Ball, the Indiana alumni team hosting The Basketball Tournament’s (TBT) regional alongside All Good Dawgs (Butler alumni) at Hinkle Fieldhouse from July 19–22, announced the roster addition of former Hoosier Miller Kopp. While Indiana ties aren’t mandatory, there’s a heavy IU presence on the team.  Kopp joins Juwan Morgan, Yogi Ferrell, Jordan Hulls, Race Thompson, Al Durham, James Blackmon Jr. and Troy Williams as the first eight roster commitments for Assembly Ball. Did you know there was a “golden age” of Indiana football at the turn of the 20th century? Prior to Curt Cignetti’s inaugural 2024 season, the IU coaches with the four highest winning percentages in the history of the program led the team from 1895 to 1913. A common practice in modern college football is to reach into a successful program and hire an assistant as a new head coach. After visiting Florida State this weekend, IU football 4-star verbal commit Jay Timmons is saying he’s considering the Seminoles. “Indiana and Florida State are really the big two right now,” Timmons told the Florida State 247Sports site. “I want to make a decision in the summer.” Timmons verbally committed to IU in April right after an official visit in Bloomington.
