Indiana has landed Tulane transfer wide receiver Shazz Preston out of the portal. Preston is coming off a breakout season with the Green Wave.  He caught 43 passes for 723 yards and four touchdowns in 2025.  Those numbers include five catches for 125 yards against Ole Miss in the first round of the College Football Playoff. In 2024, the 6-foot and 206-pound Preston played in six games and totaled four catches for 99 yards and two touchdowns with a long of 53. Indiana safety Amare Ferrell is returning for the 2026 season. That’s according to a report by ESPN’s Max Olson on X through Ferrell’s agent. Ferrell will give IU an anchor in the defensive backfield in 2026.  He has played in 40 games over the last three years and has been a full-time starter throughout the last two seasons. The 6-foot-2 and 202-pound Lake City, Fla. product has 106 tackles, eight interceptions and 15 pass breakups over his three-year career.  He has 7.0 career tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks. After all, if No. 1 Indiana (15-0) wins the national championship on Monday night against Miami, the Hoosiers will become the most recent undefeated team in both college basketball and college football. Even as the team prepares for the national championship, an ill-timed transfer portal window has led to more defections for Indiana. Safety Jah Jah Boyd and cornerback Dontrae Henderson are both entering the transfer portal, according to reports. Boyd is no longer listed on Indiana’s roster but was with the team and in uniform Friday evening in Atlanta.  Henderson still was listed with the team as of Monday morning.  IU coach Curt Cignetti said last week he’d give players who enter the portal the option to continue practicing with the team, and Henderson said Monday on social media he’s staying…

Indiana picked up a commitment from Montana State transfer cornerback Carson Williams on Sunday. Williams was in town visiting IU this weekend. Playing almost exclusively on the outside, Williams had 46 tackles, 2.5 for loss, on the season and eight pass breakups.  He started on Montana State’s FCS national championship squad. At PFF he earned a 70.9 defensive grade, with his highest mark coming in run defense (79.3), and lowest in pass rush (55.0).  He earned a 69.5 coverage grade, and 71.6 tackling.  He was targeted 63 times and allowed 38 receptions. Indiana let a golden opportunity slip away. The Hoosiers fell behind by seven early, but completely flipped the script over the course of the first half.  IU outscored the No. 10 and undefeated Cornhuskers 32-16 over the final 13 minutes before halftime.  And things got better after the break, as IU’s lead swelled to 51-35 with 16:54 left.  But Indiana imploded from there, as Nebraska outscored them 48-26 the rest of the way. Two Miami products made sure the Hoosiers got to the national championship game in their hometown. Naturally everyone wanted to ask Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza about going home to face the Miami Hurricanes in ten days. But the player who gave a turbo boost to Indiana’s 56-22 Peach Bowl win over Oregon on the first play of the game is from Miami too.
