IU baseball has lost an opportunity to give its NCAA Tournament resume a major boost. Indiana’s final midweek game, a contest scheduled at Louisville on Tuesday night, has been canceled due to incoming storms and lightning in the area. Because it is the last week of the regular season, the game will not be made up. Instead, IU will turn its attention to the final series of the season, with a strong finish necessary on multiple fronts. The Hoosiers will finish the regular season at home. Based on Indiana’s current roster, the Hoosiers will once again have a major reconstruction project ahead of them to prepare for the 2025-26 season.  As of this writing, IU will have at least six scholarships available as Trey Galloway, Anthony Leal, Oumar Ballo and Luke Goode are all expected to be out of eligibility. Building the 2025-26 team might follow a different course, as the Indiana staff is a strong contender for a number of prospects in the class of 2025.  That includes one of the better in-state classes in several years. Indiana Softball earned an NCAA Tournament bid for the second consecutive season on Sunday night as announced on the NCAA Softball Tournament Selection Show. The Hoosiers will be the No. 3 Seed in the Columbia Regional. The regional will take place from May 17-19 at the University of Missouri. Missouri is the No. 7 overall seed in the tournament. Indiana will play against No. 2 seed Washington in their first game of the regional while No. 1 seed Missouri will start with No. 4 seed Omaha. Indiana had plenty of chances the last two days to keep its streak of Big Ten series wins alive. Instead, missed opportunities were the story for the Hoosiers (28-21-1, 13-8 B1G) this weekend at Nebraska after a dramatic come-from-behind Friday evening win. IU left nine runners on base in the final five innings of a Saturday loss to the Cornhuskers, and were just 2-13 (.154) with runners on base in Sunday’s 4-2 defeat at Haymarket Park. As it turned out, Bob Knight’s memorable return to an IU basketball game in February of 2020 came just in time. The health of the legendary leader of the Indiana program was already hit-or-miss by that point. There are plenty of Pacers and Knicks fans in the IU basketball fan base. And the health of a former Hoosiers star might end up playing a key role in the Eastern Conference Semifinals series involving the two NBA franchises. With the Knicks up 2-0 in the series, OG Anunoby missed Game 3, and his absence helped the Pacers pull to within 2-1 on Friday evening in Indianapolis. Nebraska saw enough theatrics from Indiana on the diamond for one day. In total, IU softball and baseball combined for 13 runs in their final at bats in a pair of dramatic wins over the Cornhuskers. And both Hoosier wins have significant postseason and conference championship implications. Former IU coach Tom Crean was known for rigorous and unpredictable practices. At least in the case of one 5-star prospect, it may have cost him a recruit while he was head coach at Indiana. Theo Pinson was from North Carolina and was always going to be hard to pull out of the Tar Heel State. Former IU basketball long-range sniper Devonte Green will be part of the IU basketball themed The Basketball Tournament (TBT) squad this summer, it was announced on Friday. He is the fourth known player on the team. Troy Williams, Juwan Morgan and Miller Kopp were the three players first announced as part of the “Assembly Ball” IU team in the annual summer event.  Christian Watford is expected to have a role as well. Indiana will get a second visit from a quarterback multiple outlets say is the best in the 2025 class. And this time he’ll take a more extensive look at Curt Cignetti’s program. Multiple reports indicate Carrollton, Ga. based signal-caller Julian Lewis will take an official visit Indiana beginning on May 31. Lewis previously visited IU over the winter after Cignetti was hired. “Indiana is building something special.
