A year ago this weekend, Indiana point guard Xavier Johnson suffered a season ending broken right foot at Allen Fieldhouse in Kansas. He’s fully recovered from that, but his health is once again a major storyline as Kansas makes the return trip to Bloomington (Saturday at 12:30 p.m. ET, CBS) for the back half of the home-and-home nonconference series. This time Johnson has been dealing with a lower left leg/foot injury that has held him out since the first half of the Harvard game on Nov. 26. Since that time he’s been seen on the IU sideline in street clothes…

Indiana and new head coach Curt Cignetti have a veteran quarterback for the 2024 season. Ohio University transfer Kurtis Rourke announced on Thursday he is coming to Bloomington for his final year of eligibility. “I love the staff and the fact that they are winners,” Rourke told On3’s Pete Nakos. “The offense also is similar to NFL offenses. There are many other reasons but those were the main ones.” Rourke has thrown for over 7,600 yards to go with 50 touchdowns in his college career that goes back to 2019. He redshirted in 2019, and the 2020 season did not…
(Story is republished from 2019) It might be the biggest understatement in the history of Indiana basketball. “I think I could have made a difference.” As a Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer and six time NBA/ABA All-Star, George McGinnis made a difference in more than a few basketball games. Before he went on to the professional ranks, McGinnis had what was quite simply the most dominant single season in IU basketball history. For his sophomore 1970-71 campaign in Bloomington, McGinnis averaged 29.9 points and 14.7 rebounds per contest. He led the Big Ten in both categories. McGinnis also added…
The man who produced perhaps the greatest individual season in IU history has died. Naismith and IU Hall of Fame basketball player George McGinnis is gone at the age of 73. According to a report by the Indiana Pacers, McGinnis succumbed to complications from a cardiac arrest suffered last week at his home. He was taken to Community North Hospital where family, friends and former teammates maintained a vigil of support until his passing. Upon graduating from Washington High School in Indianapolis, McGinnis had to sit out a season under the NCAA’s rules for freshmen at the time. He would…
Two of the 2025 prospects Indiana is recruiting the hardest right now gave their thoughts on the Hoosiers and other programs in reports by the national recruiting outlets over the last week. 7-footer Malachi Moreno is one of Indiana’s main frontcourt targets in the 2025 class. Moreno spoke with On3’s Joe Tipton about the Hoosiers: “Being on an adidas circuit team (Indiana Elite) and just knowing they’re one of the biggest adidas schools and I know my close relationship with adidas. If I go there, then I know I’m going to be set up. Coach (Mike) Woodson’s resume in…
With No. 2 Kansas coming to town, Saturday is going to be one of those days at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Adding to the pomp and pageantry, Indiana is bringing back the stripe out concept to the stands for the much anticipated battle with the Jayhawks. Fans are being asked to wear white red or white in alternating sections to create a striping effect that mimics the program’s legendary candy stripe pants. Indiana first held a stripe out in 2008 when the Hoosiers hosted Michigan State, and they’ve done it multiple times since. But it has been a while. To…
There’s no rule that says Indiana has to declare during the season Jakai Newton is taking a redshirt freshman year. That part can wait. But as has been the case for a while, all signs are pointing towards the Covington, Ga. product still having four years of eligibility remaining after this his first season in Bloomington. On his radio show Monday night, coach Mike Woodson told Don Fischer everything is pointing toward Newton not seeing the floor at all this year. “Unfortunately he’s not going to probably play this season because of the knee injury,” Woodson said Monday. “So we…
