Of all the transfers who followed Curt Cignetti from James Madison during the offseason, there’s probably no one who is likely to make a major contribution flying further under the radar than Jailin Walker. One major reason, Walker suffered a torn shoulder labrum that impacted his 2023 season, and he missed all of Indiana’s spring practice sessions. But the 6-foot-1 and 218-pound senior linebacker is back to full strength and on the field at Indiana’s fall camp. Is college basketball transitioning away from the walk-on? How each team will handle anticipated 15-player roster caps beginning in 2025 remains to be seen. Right now, Indiana does not list any walk-ons on their roster for the upcoming season.  But several have been with the program for summer workouts. This will likely be the last season of 13 scholarship players and unlimited walk-ons, and it appears the Hoosiers could go with five walk-ons for 2024-25 like they did a season ago. New big man Dallas James posted on his Instagram account he’ll pursue a Masters Degree in Intelligent Systems Engineering at Indiana. The introduction of four West Coast teams to the Big Ten Conference will mean more travel for everyone in the now 18-team league. Just how much of a factor that is remains to be seen.  With players able to study, sleep, or do film review on the plane, just how much difference is there between a four-hour and one-hour flight?  We’re way past the era of traveling to games via train.  So in the end, probably not much. Kentucky-based guard Tay Kinney has already visited Indiana multiple times. He came for Hoosier Hysteria last year, visited for a game during the 2023-24 season, and IU brought his high school team to Bloomington for their team camp in June. James Carpenter knows about humble beginnings in college football. From a 400 student high school (Roanoke Catholic) in Virginia, he was thought to be too short to play in the trenches — and had no college offers.
