BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana blew out Charlotte on a steamy Memorial Stadium field Saturday afternoon by a final score of 52-14.
The Hoosiers moved to 4-0 for the first time since 2020, and they’ve outscored their opponents 202-37 along the way. Curt Cignetti became the first IU coach to begin his tenure in Bloomington with a 4-0 mark.
Indiana will host Maryland next weekend.
Here’s three quick reasons why the Hoosiers defeated Charlotte, along with the final highlights and stats from the game.
1. Response drives. Despite the final score, Charlotte was making this game interesting in the first half. The 49ers scored a couple second quarter touchdowns to pull to within three points on each occasion. But each time, IU responded with a scoring drive of their own to extend the lead back to double-digits. Overall, IU scored on their first seven drives, all 47 yards or more. They scored 35 unanswered points to close out the game.
2. A balanced offensive attack. Quarterback Kurtis Rourke was once again efficient and effective, completing 16-of-20 passes for 258 yards despite not playing in the fourth quarter. Indiana also rushed 38 times for 220 yards, with six rushing touchdowns. Five rushers had at least 29 yards, with Justice Ellison leading the way with 58, while Kaelon Black added 55.
3. Penalties improve, still no turnovers. After being heavily penalized over the first three weeks, Indiana was tagged for just three penalties, for 33 yards. And for the fourth straight game, Indiana did not commit a turnover. The Hoosiers have a 7-0 turnover margin on the season.
