UPDATE:  Galloway is confirmed OUT against Penn State.  The original story follows.

    —————————

Indiana will likely be without their most impactful guard when they open Big Ten Tournament action Thursday evening in Minneapolis.

A source tells The Daily Hoosier Trey Galloway is not expected to play against Penn State on Thursday evening after suffering a knee injury during pregame warmups Sunday.

He was listed as “questionable” on Indiana’s pregame availability report along with Anthony Walker.  A questionable designation has typically led to Indiana players seeing the floor this season, but that is not expected for Galloway.

Galloway is averaging career highs in points (10.6), assists (4.6), steals (1.2), and minutes played (33.4) this season.  He has typically taken on the most challenging defensive assignment on the perimeter, meaning IU will have a major void to fill on both ends of the floor during Big Ten Tournament action.

The Culver, Ind. product  finished the regular season as one of seven players in the Big Ten to average at least 10.0 points, 4.5 assists, and 1.0 steal per game.  He dished out 105 total assists (5.3 per game) in Big Ten play to go against just 44 turnovers (2.39 assist-to-turnover ratio). He tied for second (Bobby Wilkerson, 1975-76) on the IU single-season Big Ten assists list with 105, and finished behind only Quinn Buckner (106) from the 1974-75 season.

Galloway handed out a career-high 12 assists against Northwestern (Feb. 18) and Wisconsin (Feb. 27) to become the first Hoosier since Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas (1980-81) to dish out 12-plus assists in multiple games in a single season.

He scored a career-high 28 points against No. 2/2 Kansas (Dec. 16). He converted 12-of-17 shots in the contest. He scored a Big Ten career-high 25 points (19 in the second half) at Ohio State (Feb. 6) while leading IU to an 18-point comeback victory.

On Sunday Galloway announced his intentions to utilize his fifth season and return to the Indiana basketball program.

Indiana and Penn State tip around 9 p.m. ET at Target Center.
