Multiple national recruiting analysts have logged predictions for IU football to land class of 2027 4-star linebacker Jalaythan Mayfield.
Both Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong of Rivals are predicting Mayfield will be a Hoosier. He took an official visit to IU in April.
The 6-foot-1 and 235-pound Mayfield attends Lincolnton, H.S. in Lincolnton, N.C. As a junior, the highly productive Mayfield was named the conference defensive player of the year after recording 152 tackles (includes 26 tackles for a loss), six sacks, six forced fumbles, a blocked punt and a blocked field goal. He also contributed 13 rushing touchdowns and 343 rushing yards on offense.
Based on the average of the national recruiting outlets, Mayfield is a 4-star prospect, the No. 228 overall player in the 2027 class, and the No. 20 linebacker.
Mayfield’s five finalists are Indiana, Miami, Oregon, Kentucky, and Georgia. He previously announced a July 17 commitment date. We’ll see if this development accelerates his timeline.
Indiana currently has 11 commits in its 2027 class. The Hoosiers’ 2027 class currently ranks No. 29 nationally at Rivals.
