This year’s College Football Playoff National Championship Game has become a very hot ticket.
No. 1 Indiana football is making its first appearance in a national title game, and Hoosier fans have traveled in droves this postseason to watch their team in the Rose Bowl and the Peach Bowl. Meanwhile, No. 10 Miami is playing at its home field, Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.
Ticket prices for the game are remarkably high on the secondary market. Per TicketData, the current get-in price is $3,378. The event has carried a hefty price tag all season, hovering around the $2,000 range to get in. But prices have surged in recent weeks as the CFP has progressed, with the Hurricanes having a chance to play for a title at home and the Hoosiers continuing a historic run. The get-in price first went over $3,000 on Thursday, Jan. 8, a few hours before Miami kicked off against Ole Miss in the Fiesta Bowl. The cost got as high at $3,844 as IU finished off its dominant Peach Bowl victory over Oregon on Friday, Jan. 9.
Per Yahoo Sports, this is the most expensive CFP title game ticket in many years. The average ticket price — not the cheapest — for every CFP Championship Game between 2021 and 2025 was less than the cheapest ticket is for the IU-Miami showdown. The average ticket price for those games didn’t top $3,000.
It’s not only average fans who are wondering what’s going on. Famous IU alum Mark Cuban asked for insight on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday.
Availability, and supply and demand, are a big reason for the exorbitant pricing. There are less tickets available for public purchase for the CFP title game than any other bowl game, as many are allocated to various sponsors. Each school reportedly gets around 20,000 tickets to sell directly to its fans.
