Stanford transfer guard Kanaan Carlyle visiting Indiana

Indiana will have Stanford transfer guard Kanaan Carlyle on campus later this month.

According to a report by Joe Tipton of On3, Carlyle is visiting Bloomington April 19-21.  Carlyle confirmed the development on his Instagram page.

Carlyle is the third-highest rated player in the transfer portal according to On3.  Two of his transferring Stanford teammates — center Maxime Raynaud and guard Andrej Stojakovic are also in the top-20.

The 6-foot-3 combo guard earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 Freshman Team honors in 2024.

The Atlanta, Ga. product averaged 11.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists on the season, and 12.5 points per night in Pac-12 play.  He shot 38.6% from the field overall, and 32% from three on 100 attempts in his first year of college basketball.

From an advanced analytic standpoint, Carlyle posted a 1.4 points over replacement player and a – 1.8 box score plus-minus.  He drew five fouls per game and made 77.6% of his free throws.  He had the highest usage rate on the Stanford team, but will obviously need to become more efficient as his college career unfolds.

Carlyle played a key role in Stanford’s upset of then-No. 4 Arizona on New Year’s Eve, 100-82, with 29 points. He also scored a career-high 31 points against Washington State, breaking the program’s freshman record for scoring in a single game.

He has three years of eligibility remaining.

Carlyle is connected to IU assistant coach Yasir Rosemond. He played his first three high school seasons at Milton H.S., and joined Overtime Elite for his senior season.  He was a 4-star recruit, and the No. 50 overall player in the 2023 class according to the On3 Industry Average.
