Indiana women’s basketball’s Shay Ciezki has been named to the All-Big Ten First Team by the media on Tuesday.
Ciezki has compiled a tremendous season, ranking second in the conference with 23.2 points per game. And she’s done that with remarkable efficiency. The senior is shooting 53.7 percent from the field, 46.2 percent from 3-point range, and 90.8 percent from the free-throw line, putting her on track to join the elusive “50-40-90 club.” Her 3-point percentage is tied for the highest clip in the Big Ten among players with at least three attempts per game. The guard is also leading Indiana with 45 steals on the year.
The Buffalo, N.Y. native was left off the first team by the coaches.
Additionally, Maya Makalusky was named to the All-Freshman Team by both coaches and media. The Fishers, Ind. native entered Teri Moren’s starting lineup in December, and she showed nice improvement over the season. Makalusky shot 44.7 percent from the field and 37.4 percent from 3-point range for 9.3 points per game this year; but in conference games only, the freshman shot 39.6 percent from beyond the arc and scored 11.3 points per game.
Makalusky showed positional versatility for the Hoosiers this year, moving from the wing to the post at times when they went with smaller lineups.
IU women’s basketball will take on Nebraska in the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
