When we last saw an IU basketball game, there was concern during that contest that the opposing head coach had COVID-19.
Hoosier fans will recall Nebraska’s Fred Hoiberg clearly struggling with an illness on the Cornhusker bench during the Big Ten Tournament in March.
More than eight months later, things are picking up right where they left off.
According to a Twitter report by Matt Denison of the Hoosier Report radio show, Tennessee Tech head coach John Pelphrey has tested positive for COVID-19. That report has been confirmed by an IU spokesperson.
Indiana is scheduled to open the 2020-21 season on Wednesday against Tennessee Tech at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 8 p.m. ET.
There are no plans to cancel the game at this time, although this is obviously a fluid situation. The Tennessee Tech players and staff will be tested with rapid antigen tests prior to the game.
According to Denison, “Tech assistant coach Marcus King will serve as acting coach for the game versus IU.”
