BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – IU women’s basketball played its first and only exhibition game Wednesday night at Assembly Hall against Marian.
After being down eight in the second quarter, the Hoosiers finished on a 73-19 scoring run and defeated the Knights, 87-39.
Iowa State transfer Kenzie Hare led the way for Indiana with 18 points, all on 3-pointers, going 6-for-10 from deep. She also racked up five rebounds and eight assists in 25 minutes played.
Things did not start smoothly for Teri Moren’s squad, as IU was down 16-8 early in the second. In the first period, the Hoosiers were just 3-for-22 from the floor while committing five turnovers.
IU picked things up midway through the second, going on a 14-2 run to take the lead from Marian, a lead it never lost.
Zania Socka-Nguemen also had a big night for IU, scoring 13 points while adding nine rebounds. After an injury-riddled first season in Bloomington, the forward is looking to be a key contributor for the Hoosiers this year.
Overall, nine different Hoosiers scored, each with at least five points. Four Hoosiers reached double figures, and all 10 players who saw action picked up multiple rebounds.
The Hoosiers will open their season at Assembly Hall next Tuesday, Nov. 3, as they will welcome in FGCU. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. Eastern and the game will be televised on Big Ten Plus.
