BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Josh Hoover attempted a total of 16 passes in his Indiana debut, a 45-16 win over North Texas on Saturday afternoon for the No. 6 team in the country.  Out of those 16 pass attempts, 13 were completed, and four went for touchdowns. After spending three seasons with the Michigan Wolverines, Tyler Morris transferred to Indiana in the 2025 offseason. The 5-foot-11, 185 pound wide receiver could not pass on the opportunity to join Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers. Morris was slated to have a role in Indiana’s offense in 2025, as a major contributor out of the slot, along with being the early projected starter at punt returner. On Monday at noon Eastern, the 2026 AP preseason poll was released.  Despite Indiana coming off a perfect season which saw them win their first national championship, they will not begin their title defense atop the rankings. The Hoosiers received a No. 6 ranking, as voted on by over 60 media members. The five teams ranked above them to begin the season in order are: Ohio State, Oregon, Georgia, Notre Dame and Texas. No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza picked up right where he left off after leading Indiana to a national championship this past January.  The reigning Heisman Trophy winner showed a lot of positive signs in his preseason debut with the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday night. Mendoza replaced Kirk Cousins after the veteran led the Raiders right down the field for a touchdown on the game’s opening drive. Indiana defensive coordinator Bryant Haines won the Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant coach a season ago. Despite that achievement, most of the attention around the national champion Hoosiers centered on Curt Cignetti and Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza.
