IU men’s and women’s basketball teams to wear Fear of God uniforms again

Indiana is running it back with Adidas’ Fear of God line.

But this time it appears the Hoosiers will stick to their team colors.

After wearing unpopular dark grey uniforms in 2024, the IU men’s and women’s teams will wear Fear of God uniforms in the school’s traditional colors of cream and crimson this month.  Beyond the colors, the design looks very similar to what the teams wore in 2024.

The IU women will wear the Fear of God uniforms on Thursday when they host Ohio State, and the men will wear them on Feb. 26 against Penn State.

The Indiana men haven’t had a great deal of success lately when wearing alternate Adidas uniforms on their home court.  They lost in 2019 to Ohio State, 2022 to Illinois, 2024 to Northwestern and last Friday to UCLA with special designs.  The Hoosiers did have some success with one recurring Adidas design featuring flowers with a 2022 win over Maryland, and 2023 win over Rutgers.

Fear of God is designed by Jerry Lorenzo, the son of former White Sox and Mets manager Jerry Manuel.

Indiana was aware a portion of the fan base did not like last season’s Fear of God look.  The athletic department commented on the feedback it heard on last year’s design.

“I was there when they had the unveiling (of the uniforms) to the players,” IU Deputy AD Stephen Harper said. “The Fear of God brand that adidas is partnering with is very hip, cool with students.

“I meet a lot of our recruits as they come in to tell them about the opportunities that we have in the department, and you’ll see a lot of our recruits wearing that brand. So I think it’s meaningful to them, even thought it’s not meaningful to everyone else.”

Harper said the department has no plans to move away from the program’s traditional look beyond these occasional alternate designs.
