IU football will have a 5-star quarterback on campus this weekend for recruiting visit

This is just your typical weekend in college football recruiting, when a 5-star quarterback takes visits to Georgia, Alabama and Indiana.

    Say what now?

According to a social media post by 247Sports national reporter Steve Wiltfong, Carrollton, Ga. class of 2025 quarterback Julian Lewis will visit Alabama on Friday, Georgia on Saturday, and IU on Sunday.

Lewis has been committed to USC since August.  But since reclassifying from the 2026 class to 2025, he has reopened his recruitment.

The 6-foot-1 and 185-pound Lewis is the No. 1 quarterback in the 2025 class according to ESPN and Rivals.  ESPN says he’s even the No. 1 overall player.  According to the On3 average of the main recruiting sites, Lewis is a 5-star prospect, the No. 2 quarterback in the class and the No. 9 overall player.

Indiana hasn’t seen players of this caliber on campus very often, if ever.

So what is the IU connection?

The new Indiana staff offered Lewis a scholarship just days after taking over in Bloomington.  When that happened, Wiltfong said IU quarterbacks coach Tino Sunseri has known Lewis since he was eight-years old.

“Coach Tino is my guy, I’ve known him since I was eight-years old. He’s honestly the first college coach to notice me,” Lewis told Wiltfong.

In his sophomore season, Lewis finished the season with 3,094 passing yards and 48 touchdowns. He only threw two interceptions in 13 games. The Carrollton offense averaged 39.0 points per game. He also threw for over 4,000 yards and 48 TDs as a freshman a season ago.

Landing a player of Lewis’ caliber against the top programs in college football is a major uphill battle for IU, especially in an era when players are getting paid.  But the fact Lewis is visiting is no small thing.  We’ll see where it goes.
